hi all

for the most part i've been doing really well w/my sleeve - temporary setback w/hospital dehydration - my question is -i have seen people on this board that have had sooo many problems (leaks, stents etc) - i'm one of the lucky ones that have had an easy ride. I feel kind of guilty cuz things have gone well for me since my DOS 12/15/11.- i feel bad for unlucky ones, sounds silly but... is it ok for me to feel good for my history?

Yes, it's okay for you to feel good! We all feel bad for the ones that have had a bad experience. I'm extremely happy every day when I wake up, because it sure beats the alternative! :)

OMG! Celebrate your successes! That's what I'm doing. And I will continue on celebrating. I do feel bad that others are having some complications, but I'm still feeling really good about mind.

My surgery was the same day as yours and have had no problems.

To the OP: Most people do just fine. Why feel guilty? Celebrate, and pray (if so inclined) for those who have complications. You can be a beacon of hope for someone considering the surgery.

feeling guilty doesn't change anyone else's status that isn't doing well - in fact, it might make THEM feel bad that you feel guilty that you're doing well. Never feel guilty about success you earned. You didn't do anything to them to get to where you are! I'm quite certain you weren't going around poking leaky holes in people's sleeves! :)

There's a difference between celebrating your success and rubbing it in someone's face. Just do the former, and not the latter :)

I completely understand, I felt the same way and had even told my husband that I felt like I should not be doing so well.

I haven't been sick other than when I tried a couple of sips of choclate milk and got to experiment with the whole dumping syndrome. Now though I have tried quite a few different things and everything goes down and stays down ( thats the part I'm really happy about) Plus I feel great.

So... don't feel bad for feeling good, that's why we've all had the surgery in the first place was to feel better.

I hope that everyone who has had any problems gets better and has the the most success possible.

It is a shame when some have problems. They do end up to be ok though. Most have no problems at all to very little problems. i really didn';t have any major problems. There is a particular person on here who I think is a drama queen and post so much about so many problems for the attention. You just enjoy your journey. I am

I am 5 weeks out and extremely blessed to have not had any complications, although every lil pain and ache after a week out scared me lol. I have sent up many prayers for the ppl that have had complications. Don't beat yourself up over feeling great, celebrate it! And support those who need it that are having complications. =)

Darn tootin' you should feel good! There is nothing wrong with that, be proud of feeling good and what you are accomplishing, and be supportive of those who are having problems. For most with problems, it is just a matter of learning to adjust and live with the changes and it will quickly pass. Also, remember that for many who are having great success, we don't see a lot of their postings on here because they are out enjoying their new life.

Enjoy your health. Most of us have no problems. Most people post on forums to write about a problem. The ones who are fine do not.

I've not had a single problem (touch wood!!!) at all since this surgery, not even a problem drinking fluids (quantity or speed, can gulp pretty easily) or having pain or vomiting. Not. One. I don't feel guilty about it at all, but I DO know that I'm very lucky...and am grateful that things have gone so well.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
