Where Am I Losing All My Fat From?

Recommended Posts

I just had my second dietician appointment. I have like 2 more and then whatever else I need done. I'm a bit excited about surgery but I want to know from where all do you lose weight and inches? I know it's a stupid question but does your ring size get smaller? What about your shoe size? And where does it all go? Is it like the alli pill where you (sorry tmi) crap it all out or is it different?

Luckily, VSG is not like the Alli pill! :D Since you will have a smaller stomach, you eat less and your body uses stored fat for energy. These storage areas are throughout the body. Yes, my fingers are smaller. Yes, my feet are smaller. So is my rump, my stomach, my face and basically my entire body.

I highly suggest you read much of the research available online about the surgery and what your body goes through before you have this. You need to be educated about what changes to expect physically and psychologically.

Good luck!

I have lost inches from pretty much every part of my body. I have been measuring every month, so I know exactly how many inches. I don't know about my ears, lol. My hands look thinner, I am wearing shoes in my closet that used to feel uncomfortable, my face is noticeably thinner, I can see more of my ...uhm female private part because my hanging belly is smaller etc etc. I can go on all day and I am not even half way to goal yet! Not to mention the emotional well being and energy! :-)

I didn't "see" the weight I was losing until I started taking pictures. I used to have a shelf above my butt. Now I don't! :) I've also lost weight everywhere else, face, hands, legs, stomach, and (sadly) breasts. My wedding rings actually hurt to wear now because my fingers are shrinking and they are too big.

My wife got my wedding ring out for me and I put it back on, (we had taken it off for the operation). It is just barely staying on, another 10-15 pounds and it will be falling off.

My belt, which I had to put another notch in because the regular holes didn't allow enough slack, is now too big. I went through all the notches quickly and will have to drill again or get a new belt.

My watch was painful to wear and left marks when I took it off, now slides up my arm and I can easily put a finger between the watch and my wrist.

All my shirts are either too big or fitting fine. I can now shop somewhere besides Goodwill.

I think the fat is coming off everywhere. The belly is the last to go because there is just more there.

I'm 4 lbs. from goal and I have lost weight everywhere. Shoes, bracelets, and rings are all too big. I'm down to a 6 or 8 in women's and a 7 or 9 in juniors from a tight size 20. My bra size has gone from 40D to 34 D. I can wear necklaces that were too tight around my neck before. My gloves are bigger on my hands. I went from a size 10 panties to a size 7.

I haven't had anything done yet, but from experience of gaining weight...Yes, your ring size will get smaller. It may only be a 1/4 size or a full size. It depends upon how much fat is in your fingers (some people's fingers are boney, mine are pretty padded like baby fingers, lol).

My feet a little wider but not longer. However, I have flat feet and always have had flat feet. Some people experience their arches falling with weight gain. With weight loss their feet kind of spring back and they might be shorter. (Your feet actually flatten out a bit while running which is why they reccommend buying shoes with some room in the toes, the same principle applies with weight gain--more pressure on the foot means they flatten out).

The sleeve is basically enforced anorexia. You will only be getting a few hundred calories during the first part of your post-operative period when your stomach is healing. Whenever you drop below 50% of your BMR in calories, you body will respond by burning excess fat and muscle. In obese people, the primary loss is in fat and very little muscle. Most obese people already have quite a bit of muscle from hauling their large bodies around (let's face it, our 100lbs backpacks do make us strong). This is how are bodies are supposed to work--we store energy as fat when we get extra food and we burn it off when we aren't getting any. That is how the sleeve works. There is no malabsorption of fat like alli, where the fat is blocked from being digested and comes out in your poops or uncontrollable farts.ick.

I went from a (tight) size 13 ring to a size 10 - which is now loose again a few months later :) I almost lost my wedding band after it just dropped off my finger while I was standing there.

My shoes are loose too. I went from a size 52 pants that were nearly cutting me in two they were so tight to a loose size 36. I wear a medium shirt when I can ones that have long enough sleeves, and I have to wear long sleeves 90% of the time as I am always cold now. If I can't get the sleeves long enough I go with a large top and they're terribly baggy. Amazingly for the first time EVER when I got my eyes examined they actually IMROVED by 2 powers, the eye doctor was really surprised by that and attributed it to undiagnosed diabetes that I no longer had.

The sleeve has been the BEST thing EVER in my life.

I have gone down in sizes. I started with a size 18 women's. I am in a size 8 slack now. I can't believe how small they look. ;). My rings have been falling off too. My shoes not so much. I went from an 1x womens tope to a medium. Now one of the medium is getting a little too big. I have hardly any cloths. I don't want to buy until I start maintenance. I love my sleeve. ;)

I just want to point out that the sleeve is absolutely nothing like anorexia - not even close to the same ballpark.

People who have anorexia will attempt to live off of as little as possible (1/2 of an apple and gallons of Water each day) in order to become 'thin' despite the fact that they are typically already hideously thin. It's Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

The sleeve forces you to eat LESS, but not nothing. Most sleevers maintain their weight by eating anywhere from 1000-2000 calories per day. Someone with anorexia would be horrified at the idea of eating more that 100-300 calories per day.

The two are nothing alike.

Hello, just wanted to clarify, by anorexia, I was meaning the the dictionary term of loss of appetite and inability to eat, and not the clinical term anorexia nervosa, which is an eating disorder. Sorry if that was not clear.

I sure don't have anorexia. I never minded being a fat guy except for no energy, no breath, ill fitting clothes, diabetes, high blood pressure, and various other health issues. But the fat hid my wrinkles. :)

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
