Recommended Posts

Hey Girls Friends.

:nervous I am schduled to have surgery on August 11th and I was just wondering if there is any problems should you start your period during the days before etc. I just know that everytime that I plan something, I always start. Hell the day of my wedding, I had a visitor.:(

there is absolutely no reason that your period will interfere with your surgery. Medical professionals are used to dealing with this all the time.

Yeah Dovie don't worry about. Doctors and nurses are used to the site of blood, and they will not cancel your surgery because of it. My sister had gall bladder surgery while she had a vistor and she said it was fine just a tad embarassing. Good luck with the surgery you will do GREAT!

I was told at least twice by the nurses "if you have your period on surgery day, just be sure to wear a pad, not a tampon".

So, it wasn't an issue at all.

Best of luck!!!

While an inconvenience, having your period at the time of surgery won't interfere with a thing. On the pre-op instructions it should say no tampons.

I had mine the day of surgery. I wore a tampon (no one told me not to) and I was really embarassed about it...but everything turned out just fine. So, please don't worry! It will be the least of your concerns that day---focus on yourself and your recovery. Good luck!

I had mine during surgery (do a search and you'll find lots of threads about it). Pad only -- no tampon. It would have been tough to remove after surgery.

Thanks everyone! It is getting closer! I go today for my visit with Dr. Carter. He won't be there(due to an illness) but his nurses will be doing the orientation. I guess I really won't see him until the day of the surgery. That makes me alittle nervous. But then, I am getting nervous and soooooooooooooooo excited! Thanks again everyone! It is so nice to have someone to talk too!

How are you supposed to wear a pad if they don't let you wear any undies? When I had my tonsils out they told me to strip down and I still wore my undies in. I am a shy person :(

Ask your surgeon if he/she uses a bladder catheter. If none is used, you MIGHT be able to wear 100% cotton panties into the OR. If you're "regular" try and schedule the surgery a week or two after your period is due.

I had my P during my surgery, I made them aware of this and they said no problem at all. I made sure I did bring pads for my 1 day hosp stay. I even had a cathether and all was ok.

Period,

Where has mine gone. LOL

You know how you kind of start your period, if that makes since. Well, I was going to preop and I told dh I was starting and while I was in surgery to go down to the gift shop and get me some tampons, mind you we're in Monterrey, Mexico and don't speak a word of spanish. After recovery I said where are my tampons he said, I didn't see any so I said, "Honey, go get me some tampons, so he goes back to the gift shop and he said he ask the little Latino girl, uhhhh, my wife needs some uhhhhh Tampians,

he said she pointed to the cokes. I laughed so hard. Well, I didn't get any tampians but needless to say it stopped dead in it's tracks and that was 5 weeks ago and still no period.

I thought it was kinda cute.

That is too funny! I wonder if Tampians really means coke or if she was just guessing?! He's a good guy...he tried! :heh:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
