I loved my dad. I love my kids. I chose this surgery to give my kids something that they don't even know they would have missed.

What a beautiful and touching post. Thank you. I am going to refer back to this often to remind myself of the importance of this surgery, and to strengthen my resolve.

Hi Everyone,

I am just now in the process of waiting for insurance approval for my sleeve. My question to you veterans is ... What have you done about/with all of the extra skin you were left with? I already have a belly flap and can't imagine what I'll do with it after the weight comes off.

Thanks in advance for any responses and for your willingness to share your experiences with those of us looking ahead!

Susan

I do have some skin, and I think this is perfectly normal. I used to be well over 300 Lbs and I lived that way for over a decade, it would be wishful thinking of me otherwise. That said, it could be worse. It's not really all that bad.

I'd rather have loose skin than it still be filled out and me living an unhealthy and unsatisfying life. Sorry but this is so true. Life has taken on a whole new meaning for me now that I'm thin, fit and am able to do SO MANY things I never was able to being so heavy.

I have had a few plastic surgeries, which was a breast augmentation because with my weight loss also meant no boobs.. LOL ;) Perfectly ok, I fixed that problem. Also, I did have some body contouring from my knees to my waist. I do NOT regret any of that pain or payments for one second!! I absolutely came out better than I ever imagined, and my results are amazing. I'm very happy!!

Now, I do still have loose skin, but I will wait to have those addressed for likely a few years. First of all, our skin will take its time to retract back as much as it ever will and that takes a couple years time to do. Second, if there is a chance Hubby and I will have babies, it would make zero sense to have it removed just to stretch it back out. So, I'll wait.

My Motto is, I can hide it with clothes, but there's no hiding being obese... no matter how well I dress. Also, if anyone's worried how things will be with being intimate with someone, well my Hubby never complains ever. He's amazed by my progress and how I look now. I say, if anyone's significant other does, then that's a whole other set of issues, not just loose skin.

Thank u SO MUCH for this post!!!! I gave wondered @ the extra skin. The Lord gas blessed me with a wonderful husband who tells me. He knows I am overweight & I's Mt cheerleader for the WLS bur said ge "sees" me as I was when we were married. I weighed 110- 28 years ago! I think this I's a blessing since men are "visual" when it comes to being intimate. I feel this I's a blessing to our marriage. now it's just up to ME getting my mind set for the extra skin .

I am ready for it all especially the health benefits as we now have a 11 mo grandson I pray i can live long & happy life to be able to enjoy him and our family fir years to come!

Thank u all for u r encouragement !!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
