It's Hard To Be Patient When I Want To Be A Patient. :)

Recommended Posts

Last Thursday, I had my last appt for my medically supervised Weight loss requirement. 6 months worth. I lost a total of 27 lbs. The Insurance Coordinator sent it all into BCBS Texas.

Now, I'm waiting.

Logically I can't see how they would deny me, except for the fact that for 2 of 5 years of weight history I didn't have a weight recorded. One of the years I was pregnant and they won't use that year. Then in 2010, I didn't go to the Doctor. I was embarrassed that I weighed over 300 lbs and didn't want to get a lecture and I wasn't sick. They can plainly see what my weight was in 2009 and what it was in 2011. It's not like I lost and gained all of it in that year.

So I wait.

I so want to start this journey to Tif 2.0.

One thing I did find out is that my surgeon does not require a pre-op diet, but I want to do one. I'm thinking of starting next week. Does anyone have their guidelines that they could email me?

You're surgeon doesn't require a pre-op diet? That's setting off my alarms.

Nope, he doesn't kgb. I should say, he doesn't require a liquid pre-op diet. It's not that unheard of. I did have to lose weight on my 6 month medically supervised diet or he would not clear me for surgery.

Two years ago when my cousin went to get the lapband surgery, her surgeon (different than mine) didn't require it. However, when they opened her up, her liver was too fatty and they couldn't do the surgery at that time. So she had to do a liquid diet prior to the surgeon trying again.

Some surgeons want a week, some want two. Nothing is set in stone as far as pre-op liquid diet guidelines.

Learn something new everyday! Yeah, I had to do a 6 month medically supervised, too. I didn't do so well on it. I can get the guidelines of my pre-op plan and share it with you. It's awesome you are gung ho! You're so close! I love that you call your post-op self Tiff 2.0. :D

Thank you so much! I have alot to be gung ho for. I probably could've lost a little more on the 6 months, but I was afraid of losing too much and then insurance saying "Well she can do it on her own!" I can do it on my own, up to 60 lbs, then my body stops and says "Nope, no can do!" I've lost 60-65 lbs 4 different times, but my body won't let go. I have PCOS and that makes things ALOT harder than it needs to be.

:)

Heyyy Tif 2.0, I look forward to watching your journey as it unfolds! :) You are one of the lucky ones not having to do the pre-op diet. Keep working hard, and in the mean time it might be good to practice what life may be like for you post op. BEST!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
