Heh... well' date=' I'm flattered right back at 'ya, but you all STILL look skinnier than me! I have to admit, that's one of my biggest frustrations. I see some totally skinny chick in her "after" photo, and she's the same height as me, and weighs MORE than me. What the heck is that about?? Skinny jeans aren't EVER gonna fit this girl. Sigh...

I'm definitely working on my Zen - stress / emotional eating is my biggest issue. Surprisingly, I'm finding 5-HTP actually helps (who knew? I never bought into that naturopathic supplements stuff... but one in the morning and one at night actually seems to make me a bit calmer, at least at the moment), and I'm reading Savor - it's sort of a combination Buddhism / nutrionist / mindful eating approach. Anything to keep me from stuffing my face any time I'm alone in the house for 5 minutes. Still figuring out how much of that is physical reaction to too many carbs, and how much of it is mind games.

Unfortunately, when it comes to treats I can tolerate a whole lot, and at this point nothing stops me from eating past the point where it makes me feel like crap and still having trouble stopping. Yep, 100% confirmed binge eater here in the house. But I'd sure as heck rather be working on that issue without having to battle physical hunger on top of it. I knew sleeve surgery wouldn't be a magic wand for me, but it's worth every penny I paid for how far it's gotten me. If nothing else, the self confidence I have at this weight is a huge leg up in the battle against stress eating. I know I can conquer this, look what I've accomplished already! With all of you inspiring the heck out of me too, I've got goal in my sights!! Watch out Meg, I'm chasin' you! (And, by the way, when do we get to see a photo of gorgeous skinny you at GOAL?!? )[/quote']

I'm a huge emotional/stress eater. I work 2 jobs and I'm a single of a special needs daughter, so I need some of that 5-HTP stuff. What is it and where can I find it?

I think you can probably find it at most health food stores, but I've bought online, and recently at costco. As always, your mileage may vary, so use with caution. I'm NOT a medical professional, and these things always have risks. I first read about it on Maria Emmerich's blog - I think her posts are wonderful.

WOOOOHOOOO!! I made it through week 1 of staying totally on track! (Ok, the fact that that's exciting is totally sad, isn't it? ) You know, it wasn't until I decided to really dedicate myself to super clean eating, no unnecessary carbs, that I began to realize just how many Snacks had wormed their way into my life. Those bags of low carb, sugar free "healthy" biscotti? Yeah, at 15 calories apiece they seemed like a great choice for a treat, but not if I eat 6 .... or 9 (eek! And they have 3 grams of carbs each!!) And that's just the tip of the iceberg - low carb crackers, Sugar Free chocolate almonds. Sheesh, no wonder I've been stuck at this weight for so long. No wonder I'm carb craving.

The good news is, I've been eating clean, feeling good, back to exercising. The bad news is, my plan to stay off the scale hasn't been going so well. It makes me panicky to think about it, but I might have to take my husband up on his offer to hide it.

Wow.... you go... gotta be honest with you, I still weigh daily. Got to and I think it is part of the reason why I eat well most of the time... I have a comfy bounce range now, but if I go near the top end, then I re think what I have/am eating and well, change it.

I am gonna 'fess... the Water thing hasn't been going well... on track food wise but I am really struggling with getting my water in. It is one habit that I let slip and I can't seem to get back in the grove!

I never meet my Water goals, either, and it's not until I get cramps in my feet at night that I really buckle down--dehydration is a b*%&$!! And I don't know about you, but I don't have a lot of time during the day to sit around and sip--teaching is a time-consuming profession, and as a choir director, I can't really be drinking in class. So my new resolution is to keep a bottle of water in the fridge at work with enough flavoring stuff in it so that I will WANT to drink it.... and I still definitely need to keep tabs on the caffeine thing--it definitely perks me up, but it also dehydrates me. I used to think of it as a trade-off I'd take, but I really don't like feeling super tired and jangly all at the same time--dehydrated whilst wired on caffeine isn't fun.

I didn't realize there was a connection between dehydration and foot cramps - I get those occasionally, and it's such a miserable thing! I'll have to pay more attention and see if I can see a pattern. I'd heard potassium, but it seems like my Multivitamins should take care of that....

(And, by the way, I have to say, choir teachers ROCK! Three of my absolute favorite teachers when I was growing up were choir teachers.)

well, it is now pretty much a year since this stall of mine has started... no wait! I've lost a pound!

I am really disappointed that it has lasted soooo long, regardless of what I do or do not eat; how I eat and when I eat!

I really can't reduce my calorie intake lower than 1000 as it really effects me and I get terrible brain fog. Goal isn't even worth that!

I was positive in Jan, that by now I would be at my surgeon's goal, and maybe even heading towards my personal goal...

So I really am thinking that this is me...

Don't know what to think about this... a part of me is sad that I haven't 'finished the job' and the other half of me is proud of how far I have come!

I am so proud of you! Look where you are. You might not be at the surgeon's goal, but you have rocked that sleeve. This is not over and it is frustrating to be stuck for a year. Wow, a year is a really long time. I don't believe your done yet. Your body is just resting right now. When you take your guard down, it will probably start going down again. And if it doesn't, you are still one hot MAMA! Yep! Lookin good, and so much more healthier. You are doing more things like going to Crete.....(sp?) Time to enjoy life and have some fun. This is what I want to adopt in my life style today. Fun, lotsa fun........ :)

thank you my skinny friend!!

i dunno... just feel blurgh! Perhaps you are right, I need to take some 'time out' again!

What isn't helping are my hormones... OMG! They are all over the place. I'm getting hot flashes again - and they are nasty! They went with the tablets but for some unknown reason, they are back with vengance! I hate them. They leave me a bag of sweat and exhausted. Some morning, whilst I am teaching, I get 3-4 and hour...just sweep over me in waves.

Another thing that I am a little worried about is my hair! Now, I know this is stupid but it is getting thinner and thinner. It isn't sleeve related, as my diet is really healthy now. It has to be hormones. The 'fringe' area at the front is so fine, the regrowth looks like baby hair. I am also thinning at the crown, if I didn't know better I would say I was a man! It is totally getting me down.

Has anyone else had this or heard of it? My hairdresser said I should get my thyroid checked out?

Any ideas? x

Coops if I was you I would be totally scared too. When it comes to our hair, all of us get upset about it. I think it's a good ideal to call your doctor (gynecologist) and find out what's going on and get your thyroid tested too. Somethings off. Having hot flashes is not fun either. My thoughts are with you.... I really want to know what's going on with your body too. Let us know how your doing and I'm keeping you in my thoughts........

I think having your thyroid function tested is a really good idea. Do keep us posted!

Coops, if your thyroid is out of whack, that could totally keep you from losing any weight AND cause thinning hair--plus make your cold or hot all the time (depends, really--mine did/does both) and give you a sense of general BLAH. Definitely get it checked out!! And make sure they run a detailed thyroid panel, not just one general test. Sometimes it's one specific part of the thyroid hormones that is out of whack, and you can't always tell that from just the single general test. Ask for a free T4 in addition to the TSH.

Before I was sleeved, my doc told me that there was no way I was going to lose any weight at all until my thyroid was under control--she said I could actually GAIN weight on as few as 250 calories a day (that's 250, not a typo) because my thyroid was so underactive that my metabolism was SUPER slow--she said it wouldn't matter if I consumed NO calories--I would probably not lose any weight at all until I got the thyroid into the normal range. So it's a big deal. I'm sorry--I thought you had had that checked a long time ago--that would have been my very first suggestion to you!!

Meanwhile, definitely keep us posted--I'm curious about it now and wonder if that's the reason you're still stalling out, despite what I consider a very limited caloric intake for someone as far out from surgery as you are.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
