Hi FlawedMan,

Thanks for your post! We are almost identical in starting weight and surgery weight. I just had the surgery on 11/16 so it is very encouraging to see how much progress you've made in that short amount of time. As of this morning I am 392 so that puts me at a loss of 48 overall and 28 since surgery. I am hoping to break the 300 barrier by my birthday on May 2nd.

If you don't mind me asking what are your eating in a typical day? How many calories?...protein?...water/fluids?...and carbs daily? What are you doing for exercise?

Starting Wednesday I can add chicken/fish/ground meat to my diet which should help me with the Protein but right now I'm averaging about 62g Protein, 450-500 calories, less than 30g carbs, and about 65-70oz liquid a day. I'm trying to walk about 30min a day but it seems like if I have a day I can't get outside to walk I actually lose more than the days I do walk.

Congrats on your achievement so far and let us know when you hit another milestone!

Why do stalls alway occur right before a major milestone?

Amazing. Congrats.

And that out of the way, to answer your question - I really really wish I knew. I hated that.

Hi Bama

Keep the faith you can get there.

300 by my birthday was my goal too. Miissed it by over a month, but feel so good that I didn't even care.

Since I started my pre-op I have logged everything I eat into an Excel spreadsheet. I think this helps keep me on track.

Over the last 30 days I averaged (per day).

649 calories

28g Fat

42g Carbs

58g Protien

I don't eat beef or pork (never have) and I can't tolerate artifical sweeteners, so most protien supplements are off the table for me.

I don't log Water intake, but I refill 32oz bottles and usually go through 3 per day.

Exercise: I walk a lot. At least 1 mile per day and 5 miles at least once a week. I also do light weights (30 lbs) mostly arms just to try and keep some tone.

FM

Congrats to you on a serious accomplishment! Holy smokes, that's a lot of weight!

My body hit certain points where it was just happy to hang at a certain weight. Right around 200 pounds, right around 160 pounds (that one took forever to break) and right around 140 pounds. Every time I'd drop a big chunk of the weight I'd find myself totally stalled for weeks on end. Just don't give up because you will definitely reach your goal if you keep on going. Slow going is still going!

Congrats again on the huge success so far. I can't wait to see how long it takes you to drop the last bit!

~Cheri

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
