Sudden Nausea/bloating/acid? Advice Please...

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 wks postop and suddenly today I started feeling something weird in my epigastric region.not sure if its true nausea cuz its sort of like a bloated feeling and acid reflux. I felt a milder version of this two days ago so I had restarted Omeprazole, which I used to take religiously for acid reflux, twice a day. Anyone else feel this? It also reminds me of how I used to feel, preop, an I was ravenously hungry and my stomach would feel "sick". Like if I hadn't eaten in over 4 hours.

I wish I could help you with the ticker but I can't figure out to get to it so I can update it. Nothing happens when I click it. That's why it stills say 23# lost when I'be actually lost 28. Honestly, I have just given up on the stupid thing and plan to make a new one later. Sorry.

Hi Lisa,

I have taken Prilosec OTC every morning for years and have since being sleeved. I just started mushies 2 days ago and am learning what my new stomach will handle and what it won't. For me, being on the 2 week liquid post-op diet is much easier than it has been trying to learn the limits of actual food consumption. The sleeve restriction has now kicked in for sure!

I do feel bloated, burpy (not a word, I know) :) and sick to my stomach. One thing I've noticed is that if I go too long between eating times, I feel much worse when I actually do have food. Sometimes I feel like I have something stuck in my throat or chest. My first day back to work was today and I got so busy that I forgot to eat or drink. Tonight, I ate what I thought was a small portion of cottage cheese and tuna salad AND boy have I felt bad ever since. I will try to do better tomorrow and hopefully eating and drinking on schedule will make it better.

Please update us so we can learn from you too. Thanks for your post! I actually got on here to see if anyone else was feeling like this.

Kathy and Lisa,

Search for Updating Ticker on the forums section - there's lots of ticker info on this site. For mine, I go to the the website and click on the My Ticker section and it automatically appears with the option to edit.

Hope this helps.

Maybe that is your "empty" feeling. It definatly can be acid in over load becuase your stomach is empty (in my opinion).

I am 6 weeks post op and I have been experiencing something similiar. My symptoms feel like severe hunger pangs with nausea. I knew it was not hunger because I would feel it even after I ate. My nexium was increased and the symptoms have improved greatly.

To be on the safe side, I would talk to your medical provider.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

I am willing to say the Omeprazole is not working. Last night I tried a liquid, Maalox, and maybe got a tiny bit of relief. This morning I woke up with this nasty feeling again. I still took the Omeprazole, 2 hours ago, cuz that's all I had on hand. I just ate something now in case it was because I was empty. The feeling is still there. I'm ready to try a different approach. I just took a GasX strip cuz maybe it's gas and bloating. All I know is that I can't tolerate much more so I am willing to try almost anything. If the GasX doesn't work, I will go buy Nexium or Prilosec or other acid reducer OTC. Maybe I will email my doctor's office too? Yeah, I'm gonna do that right now. Thanks to everyone who has responded. Keep me updated if you figure out something that works for you. Like I said, I will try almost anything at this point.

I have had that issue too. I am 6 weeks out. I added Prilosec OTC to my two Omeprazole (one Prilosec at bedtime) each day and started feeling lots better. It took a few days before the Prilosec kicked in though.

Yesterday the GasX gave more relief than Omeprazole. Perhaps the feeling is from something I'be been eating lately? I have never been someone with a gassy stomach just developed bad heartburn during later months of,my four pregnancies and when very obese. I don't feel like I have to burp and if I tried I don't burp. I'm thinking about taking a step backwards to mushies again to see if it's diet related. I'm fustrated though. I really want to keep eating eggs and meat cuz I need the Protein. I really had/have a hard time homing down Protein Shakes and drinks. I went to chew my protein. Any one else feel that way.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
