My Metabolism Test Results!

Recommended Posts

I had my RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) checked at Lifetime today!

This test is conducted while laying down in a bed type chair, and you wear a sealed mask on your face for about 20 mins.

The tests measures how much C02 you breathe out while completelty at rest, and other components. It measures how many calories you burn a day will completely at rest.

I had mentioned before I had this test in 2008, and I weighed 255lbs, my RMR was 2500 calories a day. (it was helpful I lost 45lbs in 9 months after that)

Today 3.5 months after VSG it is 1390! Not too shabby considering I had a month of starvation after VSG surgery and I am weighing 60lbs less.

I am to eat no less than 1390 cals a day or I will lose my muscle instead of fat. (I have not lost more than 4lbs in the last month but I have been working with my trainer to rebuild my almost 16lbs of muscle I lost while only being able to consume 400 cals a day) I was advised my my trainer to eat about 1700 cals a day actually. (He also says it should be primarily protien and healthy fat, and veggies) Most people at 3.5 months out cannnot reach this goal but I can. My restriction is still good but I can eat 2 wholes eggs in 20mins. (pre-vsg I could eat 2 eggs, 3 slices of toast, a side of hashbrowns, a glass of OJ and 2 sauage links!) I am a firm believer in feeding your body and not starving it.

I love my sleeve- It is built in self control. I am so excited about these results- I will be post pics soon- I look completely different.. My waist is 4 inches smaller then it was a month ago but I only have lost 4lbs-- Its from eating more and building back all the muscle I have lost!!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, what is "Lifetime"? And can this sort of test be requested at a regular PCP?

Great results... and interesting what you said about eating more... something I have been toying with for a while. I upped my cals - good cals - to around 1000-1200 but I haven't seen a difference on the scale, although I do feel a little better!

Keep up the good work you shrinking woman you!! =]

Loved reading your post. I share your attitude in wanting a healthy body with strong muscle and maximum nutrition from my food. Congrats on your efforts and success. I'm 6 wks out and also have a "sleeve of steel." The joy it brings me to eat small amounts and feel satisfied is amazing. It is time for me to really start rebuilding my muscle loss from the past few months and I hope I'm able to, like you!! Thanks again for sharing.

Wow, interesting. I am pre-op and it seems like most people eat less than 1000 calories a day????

it was just so hard for me at first to get more than 300 calories a day in the very first month. I could hardly drink 16oz of Fluid in a day for the first few weeks let alone protien drinks! (I was VERY swollen post op) I totally technically starved for the fist month, not by choice! the first 55lbs came of with little to no effort, and now the last 30ish will be directly related to the good diet and keeping up with my workouts! and thats ok!! Have have never felt so good and looked so healthy!

Can you tell us how many calories you consume each day? I need to have mine redone, but before surgery, My calories that i should consume for weight loss is 1890-2352, and it said for medically supervised my cals should be 1890. I burn 2362 each day. So, for me to lose weight, i should consume at least 1890? That sounds like so much!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
