Preop Gastric Surgery Diet Is Awful!

Recommended Posts

I've been on the preop diet since Monday. I started two days early to combat Thanksgiving meals. I has been really difficult. The first day I was all hyped up to start, so it wasn't that bad. The toughest thing is just wanting to chew something. I am on three Labrada Body Lean shakes a day. I have a cup of broth in between when my hunger spikes. My paper didn't specifically say I could have broth but it said choose sugar free Water flavors, and I just assumed broth is a sugar free water flavor... My minimum water intake is 64 oz, but I usually get in a gallon. My hardest times are watching food commercials (I never noticed just how many come on during commercials breaks). Second hardest thing are when other people in my office are bringing in fast food, and using microwave to heat up their lunch. I wish my diet included a high protein/low carb meal, like chicken and broccoli. I think just having some actual food to eat would help. I don't actually crave sweets or carbs, it's Proteins like chicken, tuna, or beef.

Everyone's advice really helped. I am now on day 5 and have seen changes in the scale so that is totally motivating. Also, for some reason it is getting easier-and no more headaches! How is everyone else doing?

I started my pre-op diet by the end of October, around the 24th I think, I thought I was gonna have my surgery by mid November, but it was postponed. So I decided to keep on it, I still haven't had my surgery. I don't really get very hungry anymore, If I get a hunger pang I'll eat a slice of cucumber or low fat cheese and i am fine. If I am somewhere, where there is nothing I can eat the hunger goes away in 5 minutes or so.

So, here is an off shoot question. my hubby wants to be supportive of me and eat as I do as much as he can during pre/post-op. he doesn't have much weight to lose, maybe 20-25 lbs at most. if he takes my bariatric Vitamins and does a modified version of the full liquid diet, would it be harmful to him if he does that for, well, i guess it would be a total of 4 weeks if he does it as long as I do. I appreciate he wants to be supportive, but I don't want him to get sick. He rarely eats more than one meal a day anyway. Probably not the best way to do things, either.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
