Just Beginning My Gastric Sleeve Journey

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, though I've been lurking for about a month :) My pre-op appt is December 1st, and they plan to do everything (labs, nutrition counseling, education, psych) that day. I'm going to be self-pay, and was really surprised to get approved for enough loan $ in a matter of 24 hours. Now that it's coming together, I'm starting to get nervous, but I'm really excited! Anyway, just wanted to officially check in and get involved. Thanks for all your posts so far, it's really been helpful to read so much about others' journeys!

Welcome Goldenraisin! I lurked for a while too before posting. This board is great. Lots of information and wonderful, informative and supportive people. Feeling nervous and doubtful is super common. You will read lots of posts about that. For me, this has been an incredible journey. I have a ways to go, but I am feeling so well and so happy! Best of luck on your journey! I look foward to reading about your progress!!!!!

Hi just started lurking too. I have one more consult to go on 11/22, and then they go for insurance approval. They tell me it should not be hard, given my situation and co-morbidity. I am hoping to start off the new year a new woman. l am hoping to find some friends to get through this with. I have to admit i am getting a little nervous since this is starting to seem real. :cornut:

Appointments have been great until the other day and my BMI dropped to 39.6. The paperwork has been submitted. Now the waiting game is on. Please keep me updated on your surgery.

uh-oh--is 40 the minimum? given that it seems like most places make you diet before surgery anyway, i would hope that was okay...

Went to my last consult. cardiology. He okayed me and got me right over for a echo. He said he's get the consult right over to the surgeon. Jope fully right after Thanksgiving I should have a surgery date. I will be and am thankful that I made this decision.

Hope every one has a great thanksgiving.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
