Here we all are! Introduce yourself!

Hi guys, looking to start talking more about the upcoming surgery. As I mentioned in the december sleevers thread in pre-op, or I think I did anyway ;) I am approved and will get my date tomorrow when the person who does scheduling is back in the office. I am hoping for 12/21 or 12/22.

I wonder if we could share some basics about ourselves, apart from our major shared topic of vsg? :) :)

My name is Julie, I am 38, mom of 4 kids, I work in high tech from my home most of the time, and travel fairly regularly, though it is quiet now and probably will be through the holiday. My hobbies include knitting and crochet, and for many years I made glass beads, but when I had little kids again, I stopped because there was no time and it was hard to setup a safe way to do it! I will again some day. I love it. I've been overweight most of my adult life, started to climb after I got married. Most people think I gained weight from my kids but my big climb came pre-kids, actually. I was probably 230 when I got pg with my first.

I am working on emotional eating issues in advance of the surgery of course....the program I am using online is at shrinkyourself.com... kind of an online process for cognitive behavioral therapy for overeating. its interesting. I am tracking my eating...was using weightwatchers for quite a while, but I just let my subscription lapse because I am trying to track Protein and carbs now more than points. So switching to something else. Do you have a favorite? I have several, myfitnesspal, sparkpeople and lose it, but can't decide on which one to use. I am using a fitbit for tracking my activity/movement.

I've purchased and tried some different Proteins and have ordered some Multivitamins to try different ones....I've also purchased a bunch of small dishes to fit my new tiny portions. Hard to fathom eating portions that small at this point.

Okay, enough rambling, who is next?

I just start my liquid diet today, so far so goo, tomorrow I have my Pre-Op Educational Class and Wed. my Exercise class. Tentative surgery date is Dec. 28 if they can squeeze me in if not Jan 3rd. I understand that one of the insurance companies is cancelling their benefits for WLS, so my doctor is trying to fit in everyone with this insurance...and I totally understand that, so I will be patient...only thing is that I might end up being for 3 weeks on the liquid diet pre-op :)) Small sacrifice :)

I am so excited reading everyone's journey, I am learning what I need in the hospital and what to expect after the surgery...I am trying to take as little time off from work and I am in grad school online, and don't want to miss out a quarter....busy mom :)))

Ela2012, I hope you are able to get the dec 28 date but Jan 3 is coming quite quickly too!! Man, though, couldn't they give you a better idea to confirm so you don't have to do the pre-op liquid for any longer than necessary? Eeks! my big long pre-op class at the hospital is this wednesday. Kinda excited (what a nerd!)

Mine is tomorrow...cannot wait!!!! Liquid diet is been ok so far :))) What were your favorite shakes? I tried the EAS and the Slim Fast low carb...not bad. Sugar Free Gelo, some Gatorade 0 and I need to make some chicken broth...

Ela, I think Imma stick w/ the SF low carb.. I have the creamy chocolate and vanilla cream.. not bad.. .I'm also gonna try Isopure zero ... it's a drink, almost waterish I've heard...

Yes, the isopure zero is super good, I hope I like it after surgery. It tastes kind of like weak koolaid. and none of that weird whey aftertaste. it does have an aftertaste, but liveable and nothign like the shakes.

Congratulations and good luck!!!! How long are you staying in the hospital. I am told I have to stay 3 days.

thanks!!! if all goes well, it would be 3 days (2nights)

The extra rest will not come from staying an extra night in the hospital! But, if you don't feel you are ready to go home make sure the doctors know that and that your insurance will cover the extra night. Don't want to end up personally billed for it!

Danielle, how long it took you to recover from the surgery...I am trying to see how long I will have to be out of work :(

Me too!! I think I want an extra night!!! I need some rest!! LOL

Not sure how much I will be able to rest in the hospital...read lots of blogs and it seems like someone is always in your room to check on you :)

I am sure I will feel much better when I get home, but I will have my laptop and kindle and phone ...so I will try to keep myself busy :)

I had surgery 12/5. My doctor gave me a note that I can go back to work 12/19. I feel fine enough that I could go back to my desk job now, but I sort of hate the job and don't mind a few days off feeling good :) Take it easy and do what you need to do!

Hello fellow December VSGers! I just had my surgery on Dec 16th. I had a lap band 2 yrs ago and had to have it removed July 2010 due to a leaking band and a bad infection. I lost 156 pounds with the lap band. After it was removed I gained back 40 pounds and decided to have VSG done.
