Last minute Jitters!!!

Recommended Posts

I am going in for my lapband surgery on Monday and am starting to get very nervous. I went out today and stocked up on all my liquids. Now I am trying to get my house cleaned and things ready. I have 3 kids and just want to have everything in order!!! I am really nervous about giving myself the heparin injections 3 xs a day!!!! Anyone else have these feelings.

any last minute suggestions?

thanks so much!! I am so glad to have found this board!!!

Aww...you'll be fine. I suggest that you ask your hubby to watch the kids for a few hours tomorrow and just spend some alone time. Read a book, watch some TV, get a massage or a facial, whatever. You just need to relax.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

I got a heparin injection in my tummy right before surgery and the day I came home. I didn't have to give myself any at all. I guess all doctors do it differently. I can tell you though I didn't even feel it. It's a "blood thinner".

Trish - best of luck to you, hon. You will be just fine. Before you know it, you will be on your way to your best "you". I am an RN and the heparin injections are not bad if you inject into your lower abdomen. Be sure to "pinch an inch" so to speak, when you give yourself the injections - you will not feel it as much - don't rub the site after you've done it though, you may have some bruising, which is normal. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope to get my surgery date soon.

Take Care, Rachel

Thanks for all your encouragement!! Yes the heparin is for prevention of blood clots. I have to give them 3 times a day!! Other than that I'm not too worried. Hope to be up and moving around asap to get the gas out!!!

Thanks again!!!

You'll do just great and I agree, I would take some me time tomorrow and just relax. I got one heparin shot right before surgery in my arm but that was it.

Make sure and walk walk sip sip and you'll do fine.

Best of luck,

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
