I finally had the "talk" with my mom. She took it a lot better than I expected, she was actually ELATED...now I'm all weirded out....it was like that awkward moment when you find out your mom thinks youre really fat *tears* lol

My mom took it well too, totally threw me for a loop. lol. I keep expecting her to say something negative about it, but she hasn't. I think at some point moms just realize we are adults and really just want the best for us.

I'm just happy I have her for support as I am sure you are too. Just take it and run with it. Good Luck!

I think it's wonderful your mom recognizes your need and is willing to support you. It could be worse... My mom was convinced I was going to die. Like really convinced. She insisted on coming to the hospital and hovered over me pre-op like she'd never see me again. Not gonna lie- it really freaked me out.

Now, eight months and over a hundred pounds later, she agrees it's the best decision I could have ever made and looks at me in awe. She constantly says she had no idea how big I was until she sees me now. She's actually apologized multiple times for not seeing my need and supporting me.

Hugs-

Amanda

I haven't told my mom yet... but I think one of my sister's did... I told her I may have to have surgery for a hernia (which I may)... and when I was home she asked if i was still having my surgery.. I told her that I think so and she wanted to know if I needed her to come from MS to Chicago to stay w/ me... LOL...

I know she will be supportive, but I also know she will worry.. So, I will tell her everything once the surgery is over and I'm home recuperating for my 6 weeks!! I really excited to be away from work for over a month!!!

The people I have shared this with have been very supportive and helpful... My one friend who started spazzing out was fine after I told her I didn't need her approval or permission!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
