Another October Sleever + Pre-OP Diet, Day 1

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am getting sleeved on Oct 17th by Dr Nick Nicholson in Texas. I was determined to be sleeved before turning 50 next summer. I am sooooo looking forward to having a birthday at a reasonable weight.

I started my two week pre-op diet today and I quickly remembered why Slim Fast did not work well for me as one of the myriad of diets I have tried in the past. I am to have 5 SlimFast shakes or bars (any combination) each day plus 5 oz of lean meat and up to two cups of non-starchy veg for dinner each day. I have one heck of a headache and my stomach is upset. I'm getting the 64 oz of Water in and hoping the head and stomach will calm down in a day or two as I get used to this pre-op thing.

I am taking my 11-year-old son to the state fair tomorrow (we homeschool) and am not looking forward to avoiding all the fried food and yummy stuff they have like funnel cakes, candy, etc.

Hope things are going well fo the rest of you guys!

Mamasez (Leah)

Hi Leah!

I'm being sleeved on the 18th and started my pre-op diet today. So far so good...I'm also battling the headache though. I keep telling myself that this will be so worth it in the end and pretty soon the pre-op diet will be a distant memory! Just wanted to wish you luck!!

Been on the liquid pre-op diet for a week. The first 3 days were rough but I pushed through them and have adjusted to the lack of food. The fact that I have lost 10lbs since starting is a great motivator. :D

his2my2our4, here's a tip for the headaches. Keep hydrated. I made sure to be constantly drinking Water or/crystal light and it helped with the headaches and a little bit with the hunger.

This second day of the pre-op diet was a bit better but I had a good way to keep myself occupied more fully today as I took my son to the State Fair. We live in Texas and the whole fried food thing is really big here. We went with some friends who's son is a big time foodie and he wanted to try every deep fried thing on offer. I took some bars and drank tons of Water so it wasn't bad at all to abstain.

Tomorrow is my pre-op although my surgery isn't until the 17th. Glad to be getting at least this small portion done and over with though. Bring on the sleeve!

Congrats and best wishes to all of you!

Leah

Thank you! I'm refilling my glass now!! :)

Hi everyone,

Good luck with your pre op diets!! Two weeks is a long time but in the grand scale of things...we are almost there!!

I am in France and will be sleeved next week on the 13th of October. I only have to do 1 week pre op diet where I am only allowed to eat yoghurts. I am allowed 6-8 a day which does not sound much!

Today is my last day eating as a 'normal' person as the yoghurt fest starts tomorrow. I am in a strange way looking forward to not being allowed to eat as I normally would. I am just thinking I will never be at this weight again and that is a good feeling.

Best of luck to you all over the next couple of weeks

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
