Dull pain below left shoulder

Recommended Posts

I get a dull pain just below my left shoulder blade when I eat certain foods. Actually, the first 6 weeks after surgery it hurt every night at bedtime and on and off during the day. I am now 2 months out and it doesn't happen as much, but if I eat certain foods or if I eat just a tad too much(which is still VERY little) I get a dull pain there. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you know what it is?

Thanks! :)

My shoulder pain was my only real symptom, I thought I pulled something from coughing. Turns out it is from the infection pushing on my diaphragm. It is worth mentioning to your surgeon.

I had surgery on August 6th.. I am trying to imagine that I could have an infection for over two and a half months and not know. hmmm. I notice that the only time I get the dull ache below my left shoulder blade is when I eat something dense.. or maybe just eat too quickly. Did you have an infection? How were you treated? I think I read something about you having a possible leak in another thread.. am I right? lol I forget.

Anyways.. Let me know any more info about yourself.. it's helpful :)

My Dr said today it is very unusual to have it this far out, I saw him wednesday and he said he was surprised I wasn't sick from it, that's why he scheduled my surgery for today. Yesterday I got sick from it, it was like bam, at 4:30am I was fine and at 6am I was sick!! They moved me up 5 hours on the schedule, I feel so much better already. Oh and my shoulder pain completely disappeared with the sick yesterday - weird.

I understand about eating dense food, that causes me to have a stuck feeling in my back. I think if you can pin point it to that you are fine.

I'm 11 days post-op and I have the shoulder pain. It went away around day 5 and then it came back around day 8. I notice when I walk or stand up the pain is less but when I sit or lay down the pain increases. The hypocondriact in me says I have a leak but the rational side says it could be gas or possible muscle damage from surgery. I guess I'll wait it out and see what happens.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
