My mom and I were just banded a few weeks ago with the 10cc band. We just wanted to know what most people who have the need to get their preferred restriction....

Do you need no fill, 1 ccs, 2 ccs, 3ccs.... etc?

Thanks :D

I have a 10cc band and before now only had 1.25cc fill. My loss slowed so I went back to the Dr. and asked him to fill it more. He really didn't want to because it said it was not lose - and I was losing weight even though it was at slow rate. But, he filled it just .25cc. So now I have 1.5cc AND I AM REALLY REALLY TIGHT. I can not even eat 3 tablespoons of Soup. solid food? One or two bites tops!!!!!

It's strange because sometimes I regret getting it this tight after I over eat (mind you over eating is 4 tablespoons of Soup and not 3) and I'm miserable from the tightness and pain, but at the same time - I got what I asked for. Since my fill 2 weeks ago, I've lost 6lbs. Its like a two-edged sword.

Best wishes to you and your mom!

wow congrats tipper! You've done so well since April!! I don't think I will need much fill in the future because I am so restricted already. My mom is wide open and can pretty much eat anything so we both know she is in for one. Even the doc is iffy about giving me a fill in a month so thanks for the update and goodluck losing!

I have a 10cc band. My first will was 2cc, my second 1cc. Currently I have no restriction at all. I go in this afternoon for my third fill. I'll let you know. My doctor says it is usually between 4 to 7 cc for most people to feel the restriction.

Tipper did you have any put in at the time of surgery? Or is the 1.5cc the only Fluid in there? It sounds like you are overfilled. You can't possibly be getting enough Protein in with that little food. You should be able to eat solids, slowly, but surely.

Leona keep in mind that due to the different size of everyone's stomach, everyone will have restriction at a different fill amount.

I have a 10cc band and I had 2cc put in at the time of surgery. With my swelling going down I am noticing that I have absolutely no restriction.

I am going to do liquids today and tomorrow and try solids Friday. I talked to my dr and he advised me to do so after I called him this morning. He thinks that that the swelling may have not gone done completely from the fill.

I did not have any fill at surgery. My first fill (1.25) was June 3. Three months after surgery. And I got the other fill (.25) just a few weeks ago.

do you have a 10CC band or a 10CM band? It takes a lot to get restriction from a 10cc band usually. a 4cc band usually has good restriction with 1.5cc, but a 10cc band usually needs a lot more than that to even feel any restriction usually.

I have the 9.75 band and Dr. Sanchez says the most it will hold is 4cc.

Don't know if this will help you or not. I have no fill yet but I can't eat over 3-4 oz. Is there anyway you can have some restriction without fill and just the band? I sure feel it.

Leona,

I just had a fill in my 10cc band .

I'm up to 5.5 cc's and I have some restriction but everyone is different and with how much weight you loose you don't have as much restriction.

For example the band is like a wedding ring when you gain weight it gets tighter and it constricts the finger when you loose you have to be careful because it can fall off.

Not that a band around your stomach can fall off but the restriction falls off and you need to get it filled to get it tighter.

Hope that helps

I also have a 10cc Band, as of today, I was filled to 3 cc......I can drink right now, but not eat any foods.

I asked the doctor if he could make me tight enough so I could only have liquids, because I need a jump start.....I can not get motivated.

I even started counseling in hopes that might help.

I need something, cuz I have no will power.:hungry:

Hi

I not sure if i am teaching you how to suck eggs. :nervous But are you aware after a fill the stomack can reach by swelling and needs a few days to settle again sometimes longer. :biggrin1: Therefore, food will be difficult at first.

Well, thanks for your info! I'm not sure if I have a 10cc or 10cm band, and will have to find out later... that must make a huge difference! My stomach must still be swollen because i am 2 weeks out and still having problems feeling hungry and eating. I can eat food, just REALLY small amounts. I have felt dizzy and dehydrated lately and so am trying to to eat more often and drink more. Its hard because I have no urge to eat so I dont want to. To me, it sounds like I'm not gonna need a fill for a long time. My mom, on the other hand, is hungry a lot and can eat 3 times as much as I can at once. She says that I am just scared to eat anything and that is partly true, but I also can't eat a lot at once. Thanks again for your comments!

if you were banded in the US and a woman starting under 300lb you most likely have a 10cm/4cc band. especially if 1.5cc is giving you incredible restriction. i have a 9.75cm band and it took 3.4 to give me good restriction, if that helps you at all.

Wow --- I got a fill yesterday and am now at 4.5 cc in my 10cc band and I haven't been this tight since right after my surgery. I'm very uncomfortable today. But he told me I'd have swelling today and am supposed to be on liquids through tomorrow. Hopefully it will be good restriction and a lot less uncomfortable within a couple of days.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
