Used Mederma - No change at all. Grant it, I'm pasty white and my scars little pink/rosey color so I doubt anything would work.

My son who can and does tan extremely easy used it on a scar on his forehead, and unfortunately, he had zero results with the Mederma as well.

I'm using Vit E oil. You can get it at Wal-Mart. Just put a dab on your fingertip and rub it into each incision. Don't reapply unless you wash the previous application off first, a build up of the oil could give you a skin infection. I just put it on after a shower each day.

Some say it doesn't work, some say it does. My mom used it on a large cut I had as a kid. Now, roughly 26 years later, there is no "scar coloring" to it. It needed to be stitched closed, but we couldn't afford it so I do still have the mark from the cut. I believe that had it been stitched I would have nothing on my leg to indicate such a bad cut.

Hey! i was scared of the same thing. For 3 months i used vit E oil and it significantly helped with the scarring. One of my incisions is completely gone. I just ran out of it (i would apply it on twice a day and rub it in well) so i decided to try scarguard and literally in just 2 days of using it i can see a difference. My biggest incision was super dark, hard, and puffy and scarguard already flattened out the cut and lightened it a bit. I dont know if everyone else got this result but im really glad i bought it, granted it cost me 30 bucks (as opposed to the vit e which was only 5) im really hoping it helps in the long run!

I am 5 weeks out and using Mederma. No difference. Worked great for my c-section scar, but not my these. Go figure.

I'm well acquainted with scar care treatment. Mederma works, but it only works by helping your scar heal better. It won't ever be completely invisible- but it can look better. It takes time (months or years) for a scar to fade and heal, but it will never disappear. Keep on using the scar treatment (Mederma works best for me), and it will look better over time.

There are also silicone scar sheets and gels- they've worked wonders for many people.

Plastic surgery (laser, dermabrasion, or steroid injection) is also an option to help scars heal better, but it's not the cheapest or least painful route. If other products fail you, though, you can always consider it if the scars really bother you.

Has anyone tried Bio-Oil for scar treatment? I've read good reviews on Amazon but haven't tried anything yet. At 10 weeks out, my scars are still bright pink and raised.

I have Bio-Oil but haven't it used it long enough to say it works or it doesn't. When I do I'll let everyone know.

I've been using Bio oil since around day 6. Now i'm 14 days post-op so i really can't give an opinion of it yet. I do have to say that my scars don't look nearly as bad as I thought they would. I'm very hopeful that they will soon disappear.

I've actually done nothing for mine. I now have 10 incisions strewn about my belly - I guess it just doesn't bother me all that much. For my BA, my surgeon is having me take Vitamin E pills every day to help with the incision healing and to prevent some kind of issues. That coupled with some Neosporin ointment after showering. My incisions on that are really healing quite well. Better than any incisions I've ever had! I wish I'd known about it before... ;)

Good luck to ya!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
