Where did you have you surgeries?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Glad to see a group from Washington. I have lived here most of my life.

I would love to know where you had your surgeries and who you would recommend.

As I said in my intro message I may have to go to Mexico but would rather stay home.

I checked out the Swedish in Seattle and it was $ 20,000.00 for the Sleeve.

I have Regence and they won't pay for any WLS. In my opinion they are very difficult.

They are not going to pay for any cosmetic procedures. My BMI is 40.9 don't think thats the issue!

Thank you.

You may want to try http://pugetsoundsurgicalcenter.com/sleeve-gastrectomy.html I went to Las Vegas with Dr. Umbach, but attend their sleeve support groups (not as much now, but went monthly the first year). I've heard nothing but positive feedback for the surgeons there. I think the sleeve price is ~16K there.

I'm going to Dr. Lauter in Bellevue/Overlake. Check him out on obesityhelp.com. Lots and lots of good reviews and he's been doing laparascopic surgeries for a long time. Note I haven't had mine yet, but I really like him so far.

No - I was looking for a good surgeon for a good price. At the time of my surgery, the price locally was $21,500. Worked through Medical Tourism and found Dr. Umbach for a little over $10K including hotel expenses.

I have surgery scheduled for 9/22 with Dr. Aceves in Mexico. I'm self-pay and cost is a huge issue. I have a friend, an RN, who had lap-band in Mexico with Dr. Joya 5 years ago and is still very pleased with her experience. I have the support of my primary care doctor, my psychiatrist, and my therapist on this decision. Very excited!

I am getting sleeved by Dr. Almanza in TJ Mexico because:

  • Self-pay - I'm worth at least $4,500
  • Taking my daughter (an RN) with me
  • Have researched over 100 hours online and
  • Mexico is safe, clean, and Dr. Almanza is great at this!
  • My insurance doesn't cover any
  • I am using pre-tax dollars thru my Flex Plan
  • I was 3 lbs under 300 when I said - what the heck are you doing to yourself.
  • 15 days to sleevedom! Sep 2 - Here I come!
  • PS... I'm really from Idaho but lived in Spokane for 20 years!

I am 1 week PostOp and feeling good! I went to Puget Sound Surgical Center and really had a great experience there. I went with Dr. Landerholm. I highly suggest them, and research will show he is very accomplished in his field.

I was lucky and my surgery was paid for by insurance, 38% BMI with co-mormidities.

I have several co-workers who have had the lap band done and have done well with that. What I really like also about Dr. Landerholm is his attitude that the sleeve is only a tool and it is only as good as you work it. He also requires a 2 year nutrition program to help use this wonderful new tool. While my budget is very tight I felt the cost of the nutrition program will be worth every penny.

How did you like the seminar?

Kari

Hi everyone, I'm actually from so-cal, but my husband is stationed here at fort lewis, so I had my sleeve done on the 26th at Madigan with Dr. Kjorstad. Surgery went pretty well, I'm just dealing with some post op nausea still. Ugh.. Anyways hope everyone is doing well!!

I

Dr. Landerholm at the PSSC was my surgeon as well, and I have had a terrific experience. My one-year anniversary will be Oct. 7th and I'm down 140 pounds.

Plus, he's not too hard on the eyes either. :)

I went to Dr Aveves in Mexicali Mexico..I had my surg done on September 25 2010.. I am down 160 or so lbs. I was a size 24W 4X, now I am a size 6 or 7 Small! My price for surg was 8750 all inclusive except airfare. When I did research here I found that Dr Aceves had done several several hundred more sleeves than anyone in the PNW. The hospital was also the most cleanest I have ever seen in my life..not to mention my husband LOVED the hospital food...lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
