Hey everyone,

I'm almost 6 weeks out and doing well.... The first 2 weeks were terrible. I was fighting dehydration, nausea, and head hunger. When I advanced to the mushy stage things got a lot better. ***Make sure that you stay on a PPI post-op. I went off of one for about a week (mostly because I had never had any trouble with stomach acid before) and I had the hardest time with nausea, acid, and couldn't keep any foods down.

Also, be prepared for a mental journey. I had done all my research.... or so I thought. Even though I knew all the complications and had read all the tips, nothing really prepared me for the change... The not feeling hungry. The restricted eating. The new intolerance to a lot of foods that I LOVED pre-op. food no longer became the center of my life.... I was depressed. I mourned the loss of food. I'm better now, but I still have those moments.... especially when I go to pot-lucks at work or cook-outs with my family.

Other than that issue, everything else has been good, I'm down 35lbs. I can breath better, my knees & back hurt less, and I feel great. smile.gif

If you have any questions, feel free to message me!

----------------

I am glad that you are doing great. Thanks for the update!!

Hello!!!

I'm still completing my 6-month supervised weight loos program.. My WL doctor is trying to get me to eat more, I know i need to, but when I eat the 3 small meals and 2 Snacks he wants me to, I gain weight!!! I'm working on not being as scale conscious and instead, trying to be health conscious!!! I've done my NUT visits, Psych eval and I have seen my surgeon who is requiring a cardio and pulmonary consult...

I'm ready for all of this to be over!!!

I'll be 1 year out next friday and I couldn't be happier. It hasn't been easy but I would do it over again in a heartbeat. I wanted to be under 200 pounds by my first year but I'm still happy where I'm at and I know that I'll be under 200 before I know it.

Thank you so much. I'm not the best patient I must admit but I try really hard to get my Protein and fluids in. I walk a lot and I do yoga a couple of times a week. I'm sure I'm not eating as much as I should be right now but I'm a work in progress lol.

That's the main problem between my doctor, nutritionist and myself!!! I'm very scale conscious... I recently started eating Breakfast as instructed... I'm afraid to weigh-in on tomorrow!!! LOL... I'm just ready for all the doctor's visits to be over so I can get the sleeve!! In the meantime, I'm trying to forge a healthy relationship w/ food and my body!!! I'm starting strength and flex training soon.. I want to try and get in the habit of exercising regularly....

Hello fellow AA sleevers! My surgery is set for 7 hrs from now (6am pst). I'm not exactly nervous yet, moreso excited... I've awaited this day for so long and have had an interesting journey to get here...

My gf Eri Monae (who recently joined the site ) will be on her way to getting this surgery as well and I can't wait to start our healthy living/eating together. Good luck to the rest of you and see you all on the losers bench :)

Hi all... I'm about 24hrs post sleeved. Everything went well. When I first woke up however I had major pains n which point I was given more meds and fell back asleep. I'm up walking on my own (baby steps). The pain is still here but nothing too intolerable. I was able to get my Water down no problem. I do notice that everytime after I drink I feel as if I have to burp. Which makes an uncomfy feeling in my stomach that goes away almost as quickly as it came. Other than that I'm doing fine

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
