I've lost lots of hair too. Luckily I had lots and lots to begin with so I'm the only one that notices. I'm almost 6 months out and I think its slowing a little. I hope it comes back. Anybody keep their hair long while it comes in? Are the too many short hairs to do that?

YIKES.. I'm PRAYING that this will be one of the side affects that I will miss out on!!! I don't have much going for me right now besides nice hair! :D I <3 Krista's comment though about being HOT bald women! Maybe we'll have to start a club? I hope you stop losing hair really soon and when it grows back it will make Fabio jealous! Oh, and just a FYI on the Nioxin shampoo... I'm in MI and we have a store that I think is 'Industry Source' where they sell all the salon hair care products.. they had the NIOXIN liters (shampoo & conditioner together) for $60.. I picked some up for my mom who has used this brand for like forever... she was so excited about it being so 'cheap'... IDK, I hope that helps some peeps! Good Luck

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues w/ hair loss. One of the doctors in the practice group spoke at a recent group meeting and addressed the issue of Hair loss. He said that what you do today, as far as hair loss goes, will take 3 months to impact you. In other words, if you are not getting in all of your Protein needs 3 weeks out from surgery, then you will find that the hair loss will occur 3 months from that point. Guess it takes your hair a while to grow, huh? So, the moral of the doc's story was that if you are losing your hair it is only temporary and that whatever you eat today will impact your Hair growth 3 months down the road.

I've been doing pretty well with keeping my Protein above 60g/day, with maybe 2 or 3 days below since my first week out. I'll be interested to see what happens w/ the hair growth in another month or so. I have been toying w/ trying Biotin. Do you think it will help w/ my nails? That's where I've always had issues.

Hi ladies, I'm loving the weight loss, but missing my hair. My friend who is a stylist told me to start brushing my hair starting at the bottom and work my way up, did it today and had just a bit hair fall off. She said that when we brush up going down we pull our hair out with the brush. Let's see if it slows down the hair falling!

I've been militant on getting 75 to 80+ Protein a day, but still my Hair loss started at about three months and continues to this day. Sometimes whole handfuls just come out. I lose a lot when brushing and washing. I've always had thick hair and been a 'shedder' but this is unreal. I've recently started on Biotin, but I guess it's just one of those things. As long as I don't get a bald spot, I can ride it out for now!

So Sorry to hear that!! My surgery date is August 10th and I'm also REALLY concerned about losing hair bc I have very fine hair as it is! I was just reading an article in a magazine today that said to use coconut milk (canned is OK) to rub it into your scalp and leave on for one full hour. It was written by an Indian woman and they have thick beautiful shiny hair... It's worth a try I guess. LOL!!! I'm going to give it a shot! Good luck to you, You're hair WILL grow back but I know that's not helping you now!![ I've also heard of women putting in clip on hair extensions and they just love them. Maybe you can just try a few thru-out your hair just to thicken it up for when you go out. I think the are called ..Love my Hair extensions. Hope tha helps!!!

Hi there!! I was just reading your reply about thinning hair. I noticed you said it's possible that you can regain after a few years. This REALLY freaks me out bc right now I'm 2nd guessing myself on why I'm doing this! Do you know of anyone that this has happened to? I've heard people talk about when the "honeymoon phase" is over you have to be careful. Is that what your referring to? Let me know if you have a chance. It's scary to go thru all of this and think that you can regain it I'm having surgery on August 10th and I am self-doubting myself. (i know some of that is normal) Are you happy with your results? Thanks so much!!

Hi, sorry this is happening to you. My surgery was Dec 29, 2009 and my hair started falling out March 2010 and has not stopped. My braid is the thickness of my pinkie. . .I tried EVERYTHING available (biotin, Protein increase, Vitamins, shampoos, etc) and nothing helped. . . oh well at least i don't have bald spots, only thinning. . . ugh the sacrifices just for thinness and then there is the possibility you could gain weight after a few years??? Ugh . . . sorry I'm a doom sayer this morning, haven't had coffee yet! :)

I was sleeved the same day as you! I am also loosing hair at an alarming rate! I do see a few areas that are thinner than before. I am not taking anything special for it. My hairdresser said to just relax because it will grow back and I already have new hair coming in. It is temporary and it will get better!

I myself was beyond Hair loss way prior to my surgery. When I was at a support group 2 months ago, they were talking about hair loss and were saying the pre-natal Vitamins helped. My wife was with me, she was just under 2 months post op, started the pre-natal vitamins and hasn't really had any hair loss at 3 and a half months out. She is taking the Gummi pre-natals from Target.

When I was on Atkins and lost a lot of weight really fast, my hair started falling out after about 3 months, so he's right about that part, but I was eating a TON of protein (since it was atkins..lol) and it still came out. I have read Tiffykins say the same thing about protein/hairloss. Low protein may affect regrowth, but I don't think there is any food or supplement that will prevent it from falling out to begin with. I am taking Biotin for the regrowth and am keeping my fingers crossedbiggrin.gif

I started the Biotin way ahead of surgery, and started using the NIOXIN Shampoo and conditioner too. Three months post surgery, and the hair started falling out like crazy!!! This has been going on for 4+ weeks now, and I am really starting to get concerned. The shower drain and hairbrush are constantly full. Fingers crossed that I'll see a change soon.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
