OVER-WHELMED!!!!! SCCCCAAARRRRRYYYYY!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys!!!

Let me just say that even though I have only been on this site a few times, it's nice to know i have somewhere to go and be completely understood!

I have been lurking around here a few times (I'm not even sure if this is the correct place to post this comment) This is my 1st post (although, I did leave a comment for someone...I think) Anyway, I just got my surgery date which is August 10th. Reading about all of the PAIN is freaking me out. I guess you never know to what extent it will be bc everyone is different. I feel REALLY over-whelmed and scared. I haven't had my PAT yet so I guess I will feel better after that. Even though I have been reading & reading , I still feel clueless. I'm so worried about 1-4 weeks after post-op. It would be nice if I could just fast forward till then. Any support/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...you guys are the BEST!!!!

Don't worry about the pain while you are in the hospital - they give you drugs so you won't feel the pain. You may feel like your feet aren't touching the floor, but you won't feel pain.

Once I got home (after a one night stay) I had to take a total of one pain pill - ever. Haven't had so much as a tylenol. The only time I hurt some was trying to figure out a comfortable way to sleep and get out of the bed or recliner.

I recommend you get a weight / support belt (Walmart - like warehouse guys wear) and wear it 24/7 for the first couple of weeks. That and get a heating pad.

Keep your eyes on the prize...you will probably have some discomfort but you will have pain meds when you go home. I am 5 weeks out, I had kind of a rough time but it was so worth it! Experienced sleevers kept telling me that soon I would feel like a new person, and they were right. When the scale started moving downward the pain was all forgotten. Good luck!

Think it depends on your pain tolerance, I had m surgery last friday and I stopped using the pain pump at midnight that same night and havent used any pain meds since I left. The only pain and it was just a pain in the butt was the gas, but that subsided within two days. I feel great just tired most of the time but getting in the fluids an Protein just fine. I was scared oughta my mind and looking back now it was wasted energy lol, but we have to go through that tunnel to reach the great path we are on now........Good luck

I agree with everybody above! Im 5 days post- op and it does depend on your pain tolerance and also what happens during surgery! I have a good pain tolerance (so Ive been told) but was in pain up until 3 days post op. The incision where they took out the rest of my stomach killed for awhile. Comes to find out my surgeon had a hard time putting in the tube or whatever it is that allows the stomach to fit through abd be taken out. So that area hurt like hell and was bruised bad and still is. But they definetly give you the proper pain meds to control pain managment, so you can work on healing!

You will be fine!

I too didn't use any pain meds after I left the hospital. My pain was from the gas. It was horrific. Nothing will make that go away but time, about 3-4 days.

You need to keep in mind that your stomach does not have nerves in it like your fingers or nose. You will not feel pain like if your finger were cut off!! It really does not hurt.

You will be sore a few days after surgery from them moving your muscles around. I was sore, like I had done 2,000 crunches, for about 2 weeks. That is manageable and no big deal.

You will be fine, don't worry & Good luck!

Kelly :)

I didn't use any pain medication when I came home from the hospital either. The incisions were sore and only really bothered me if I tried to sleep on my side. The surgery is more discomforting than anything. Your stomach may be growly and a little crampy. It may be hard to swallow and get all your Water and nutrients in...that is why/how a lot of people have a bit of a hard time.

I loved Sonic ice. It helped get liquids down. I didn't give my body a chance to feel pain. I asked for pain medicine every time I could take it. At home I took it on a regular time schedule. Some may think that is horrible, but I did not want to let pain scare me or my family. I think it helped me get up early on and walk which helped with the gas inflated stomach area. I felt sore, but I was not in pain. I did not become addicted...years ago my daddy was scared I would become addicted to pain meds after a c-section! Hello- pain medicine is for pain!

Surgery on Wednesday - scheduled pain med till Friday- once Saturday and Sunday just to help the discomfort when going to sleep at night. None since.

I agree about different pain tolerances. I will say that this was by far the easiest surgery I have ever had in terms of pain. And I have had several. Less painful than my c-section and 100 times less painful than my breast reduction. Those were my two worst ones and it was a breeze compared to them.

Good luck, I hope you have the least painful recovery possible!smile.gif

The first week was about what I expected - a little sore and a little tired. By the second week, I just didn't seem to have ANY energ - slept a lot! Then during that time I started having some "chest pains" that made it hard to fall asleep. I started to worry about a "leak" or infection. I have a very HIGH pain tolerance so this was majorly annoying.

My doctor had not prescribed anything for acid reflux or hearburn so I started reading about it here. I decided to try it and took a Prevacid - within a few minutes NO more chest pain. NOW, it is part of my routine - no more pain.

SO... what I "thought" was pain due directly to the surgery, turned out to be "heartburn" (due to the surgery) and easily fixed.

I am 3 weeks sleeved - and yesterday was the first day I felt totally NORMAL again.! woohoo!

i agree that it is not painful at all! i was more sore than anything!

i looked like i had been beat with a ball bat about 3 days after surgery my whole left oblique and part of my stomach was black and blue and i felt like i had done 3,000 crunches about day 5 until day 15.

i never had pain except when i pulled a stitch from sneezing and then i just took liquid tylenol for a few days and i was fine!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
