Ok I'm scheduled for surgery on july 20th and I think TOM will be here!! I've never been on schedule with it, usually a week difference give or take. And there is a big possibility it will be then. How does that work with surgery? Seems like it would make it extra heavy??? Ughhh this is gonna suck. Have any of y'all been in this situation?

I don't know what it does to your period but I was told before surgery that if you are on your period during surgery, it is okay.

I was on my period heavy during my surgery and the whole hospital stay. I found it to be very inconvenient and messy but it was not big deal as far as the surgery goes.

Yes darn it that jack-you-know-what Tom showed up at my surgery. Actually he had the nerve to show up the night before when I could not even take anything for pain and had really bad cramps! Well surgery went fine. They will not let you wear tampons during surgery :(....booo.....and give you a device long enough to wrap around your waist (hahahah the old kind my mother used to use)...but right after they let you use tampons. My doc leaves catheter in until the next morning (supposed to be something about if your sleeve leaks) anyway....was a little uncomfortable with tampon and catheter (sorry if this is too much info for guys here)....but the super pain killers you take make you even forget anything is down there so you have nothing to worry about. And I swear the anest. gives you abnesia because I was really cramping and uncomfortable before the surgery and don't remember any cramps after at all....hahaha........so go ahead Tom crash this party.....sleeve will be fine!

My period started the morning of surgery. I went to the hospital with a tampon. They don't allow that in the operating room, so they gave me pads and those itchy mesh undies. I wore that during surgery and when I sent hubby home to get himself a coat (it was freezing in the hospital), I told him to bring several pair of undies as I ALWAYS leak out of a pad, I dunno if I shift around too much or what. Anyway, I didn't have a catheter. They wouldn't let use tampons the whole time in the hospital (I put one in anyway as I got dressed to go home the next evening LOL). It was a mess and gross and annoying, but I survived. I told the admitting nurse right away because I knew about the tampon thing - plus at least 4 people asked me the first day of my last menstrual cycle (today, okay? TODAY! LOL))

I had my hideous beast of a period on my way there, in the hospital, during my checkin, all through the surgery and all through the days I stayed in the hospital afterward. They got me pads in the hospital and let me keep my underpants on when I got on the gurney.

Downside is that I was on the rag the whole time. Upside? Drugs. I barely cared if I was bleeding or not. The whole thing might have been gross for them but I was unconscious and/or high as a kite so it didn't bother me at all. Can't beat morphine for cramps :)

Ugh gross I hate pads! Maybe I can wear my own undies instead of those mesh ones that u wear in the hospital after having a baby. Oh and that mattress of a pad!

I started mine the day before surgery and they allowed me to wear my tampon during surgery which suprised me a little. As ASBgirl said, it was inconvenient after surgery but what can you do, ha? I don't recall any cramping though :) thanks to the pain meds. Good luck to you!

I too started the day before surgery. I was super nervous about it but it really wasn't too bad. I kept on these paper boxers with a pad until I was passed out! When I woke up they just had a big pad on the bed until I could get up and then I was able to put undies on and a big pad! Strange enough it was SUPER light and it's not usually like that! LOL

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
