Employer changes Ins.

Recommended Posts

I received a letter from my employer yesterday stating that we are getting a new ins. carrier effective 9-1-06. My current ins. is UHC and they are covering the surgery, which is scheduled for next week. I have talked to my surgeon's office and they don't accept my new insurance carrier. My concern is follow-up care. I know nothing about this new ins. carrier and whether or not they cover WLS. If I needed to have additional surgery because of erosion, slippage, etc. I can't afford to self pay. Any suggestions or comments on this?

New ins. carrier is Texas True Choice, anyone know anything about it?

Most insurance numbers have a 1-800 number that you can call to check on benefit coverage. If your employer does not supply it, call and ask questions directly of the insurance carrier.

Like Elisabeth, I would try and go to your employer and find out more information on the policy. My doctor is $200 a fill and with UHC he is asking me to pay $50 a fill up front. He is out of network so I don't know how much they are going to cover. You may be able to negotiate the fill price, but naturally your concerns will probably be around if you need another surgery, etc. Its best to check all of that out prior. Sorry this is happening to you. Best of luck.

I agree, research the new carrier. If there is a likelihood that they would approve your surgery, I'd consider waiting until the switchover happens so as not to worry about everything being covered.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
