I don't have an answer to your question but I would like to hear what people have done. I'm 34 5'6, started out weighing 248 and was sleeved on the 11th of june. I'm still on full liquids. I too am scared to start eating regular food (though i'm tired of what i'm eating now). best of luck in your journey.

I would say the people who have the best results here follow the simple principles that most (not all of course) of use are given by our doctors.

Mine are:

600-800 calories in the higher losing phase

<= 40 carbs a day (many go for 30)

daily exercise - i walk an hour a day and do Water aerobics- my knees can't handle everything

at least 64 ounces Water a day

Vitamins

Some people don't count carbs- for some low carbs does not work- you will need to figure out how YOUR body does best! It is best not to compare weight loss results- your body will do it the way your body will do it but if you follow the rules you WILL lose.

As for loose skin- I think again that depends on your own physical makeup- some will bounce back quickly- others have lots of loose skin.

For adding new foods, my doctor recommends you add one new food at a time and follow a process when you are first adding solids:

take a bite, chew it very very well, swallow.

wait 2 minutes- if it goes down well and feels ok

take 2 bites- always chew very very well

wait two minutes

take three bites- chew very very well

if this works well finish your portion. Chances are you may feel full already- which is in itself a learning thing. You will have to figure out when you are full if like most sleevers you do not have hunger to guide you!

Good luck to all of you!!!

I cannot tolerate anything over 2 oz of Proteins. I usually braise my meats so they stay moist. What I like best are the pate's--whiz your portion in the blender, then add one tsp of olive oil mayo (I like Best Foods brand.) To further moisten your meat, add a tablespoon of Light Creamy Ranch dressing to that and stir it into a pate'. I place a fourth of this meat onto my crackers to eat as lunch today. It was very tasty!! I am not very interested in too much spice or condiment, but do use some pepper, or lemon juice, maybe garlic, onion, or a smidge of garlic salt to a dish, if needed. I also cook a lot with either chicken or beef broth. This adds fuller flavor to the foods. I also like unsweetened applesauce, have blended veg Soup (Homemade), and I also add a fruit to my shakes sometimes. Main thing is getting the liquids, Vitamins, and working at getting the balanced meals into place. I live in Phoenix, AZ where we have extreme heat advisories this week, so the exercise time has been challenging.

Otherwise, I am feeling great. Losing weight, and really excited to reach goal and maintenance. :D

The first week on clears were hard.. couldn't get a lot in but i went from only being able to take in 16 oz to at least 50 oz. Now i've started mushies and i could only take a couple of bites of the things i've tried (crabcake and egg/cheese, probably not the best choices but i was craving them) before i started feeling sick. I did not enjoy them. The first week i lost 14 pounds, the second week i lost 2 pounds and now on my 3rd week i haven't lost anything yet. It's frustrating the dramatic difference but hey a lost is a lost. If I didn't have the sleeve I probably would have given up if I saw I didn't lose weight. I know the weight will come off. I am concentrating on my Protein, not getting enough and i will start my Vitamins.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
