Tired of feeling sorry for myself - hit the gym today

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I went by the doctors office and was up 5 lbs yesterday. I haven't had a fill so they were telling me the band isn't working yet on me. Thankfully, I took that information in stride and I'm happy to report that I've worked out 2 days in a row. I hit the 55+ cardio class this a.m. I'm not 55 but it was the perfect cardio for me. I signed up with a personal training and start that on Monday. I know I can't compare myself with other bandsters but it is difficult at times to hear all the great successes that people are having only being banded a month or 2. In my case, its been difficult without restriction and the band being a tool is a mild expression to say the least. I know this is up to me. I am becoming my own best friend in weight loss and fitness and today was a good start. Thanks for listening.:clap2:

I just wanted to congratulate you on stepping up and doing something to help your health! The band will not work until (1) we have restriction ~and~ (2) WE do something to change our lifestyles to make ourselves healthier. Its a good reminder to those of us who don't have restriction yet, or who have lost it. This is a two part deal - partly the band and partly us. Way to take charge and do something to better your lifestyle!!! Good luck with your new exercise program!

Good for you for doing something positive!! I have not had a fill yet and am really feeling the LACK of restriction. I will get my first fill on the 18th. (Long story about the wait--I will spare you the details!)

I was just thinking about having a cheeseburger for dinner and you have inspired me to go back to the band rules I was following after surgery when I had restriction from the post-op swelling. I will make a better choice tonight instead.

Good journeys to all of us!!

Thank you both for the messages. I am really trying to work on my attitude towards myself right now. For such a long long time I have used other people to make me accountable and/or just excited about my life. It is time for me to keep excited on my own. The weight loss isn't something that will happen overnight. So with that said, I am working on my head to make sure I stay focused, that I appreciate what and who I am and that I stay motivated in a physical sense. The band will give me the restriction I need. I just need to be patient. Thank you again. Best regards to both of you.

I lost and gained for the first 4 months because thats how long it took before i got good restriction. It will get better, you'll find your sweet spot and then you'll see that ol' scale moving in the right direction.

I really admire your attitude. I am going to take what you say with me when I'm banded in August - to just be patient, and be good to myself. I have a feeling I'll be coming back to read your post again.

Hey Julie,

Congratulations, that's the right thing to do! :clap2:

I get pretty frustrated when I read about those amazing results from other people (I'm happy for them of course, but afterwards I feel sort of a failure because I'm loosing so slowly...). I don't have much restriction either (and at night all my hunger demons come out...) but I keep telling myself that now I have my band on my side, it's only up to me to do something positive about it. Going to the gym started as a huge sacrifice, but now I try to go at least 3 times a week and I'm starting to see some results (even my skin and complexion looks much nicer  )

Just remember you're not alone, there are others like you out there and you just have to take one step at a time.

best of luck!

niki

I feel your pain sister!

I too have been EXTREMELY slow to lose, but unlike you I do have restriction. I have to journal every bite I take and make sure that I am eating below the 1,000 calorie mark.

I have also been working out daily on the treadmill and doing aerobics (sometimes twice a day). It is truly alot more work than I thought it would be because I had been a sucessful loser in the past (just couldn't keep it off).

My scale is moving oh so slowly, even with me REALLY working at it every day.

Hang in there. We can do this!

Hi Julie --

I love your attitude. It's great that you are getting into the gym. I have been walking 3 to 4 times a week, the past 2 weeks (2 to 3 miles). I have a gym membership but haven't gotten back into that yet. I've wanted to get my endurance back up to where I could comfortably walk.

As for your weight loss, how many people pre-banded can say that they lost 12. 5 pounds in a month?? I don't know too many. You are doing great!! I think the hardest thing for us is to not compare your weight loss rate to others. We are all different in that aspect. But ultimately, we can ALL reach our goal. It make take some a little longer than others. But isn't that just how life is to begin with??

Keep up the great work.

Melissa Lea

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?
