HAPPY DANCE!! Surgery is Approved and Scheduled

Recommended Posts

:dance: I got the call today I have been approved. Surgery is scheduled for July 18th. I am very excited and relieved. The waiting game has finally come to an end (well have to wait for the surgery. Duh!). I am required to do the standard 2 week pre-op diet. I was wondering if anyone did anything else to prepare for surgery prior to the pre-op?:Banane35:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is great news! The only thing I did other than my 2 week diet (which was a low carb one...not a liquid diet) was to read the posts on this board obsessively. It was very helpful because I felt like I was as prepared as I could possibly be. Good luck and congratulations again! :D

Congrats on getting approved and a date! That's great news.

One thing that I am doing before the pre-op diet is trying to journal the food I am eating so I can get into that habit so I can track the Protein, carbs and calories post-op. Once I get a food scale, this will be a bit easier I think.

I am also trying to eat "healthier" - I have given up my daily diet coke, have tried to stop eating fast food (I have slipped a couple of times), and I am trying to eat smaller portions 5 or 6 times a day. Many of these things are what my dietician suggested when I first met her.

This weekend, I plan to try some of the recipes I found on here and on eggface's site as well as a "healthy" version of hamburger helper that I found online. I've been craving hamburger helper lately - but I know it has a lot of bad stuff in it, so want to try to cook my own from scratch and make it healthier with some of the tips I've learned on here.

Of course, I'm always reading things on here and continuing to do my research.

That is awesome. I also got the call today. Everything has been approved, and I am scheduled for July 12. I also have to do 2 weeks of the liquid diet. It sounds like we are "sleeve partners"rolleyes.gif

Congrats to you! This is so exciting isn't it? My surgery is scheduled for June 23. I'm so happy for you.

My suggestion to you, would be to find a Protein shake you like before it is time to start. I made the mistake of waiting until the last minute! I started with my husband's shakes (he uses Muscle Milk for his workouts...ugh...nasty after taste that last and last)...I had 2 my first day and was in tears because I couldn't drink any more of it. So, I had to run out and find something else....finally found something 4 or 5 hours after my last tiny Protein Drink. It was a very tough day....the sudden change, too, didn't help! I think, too, that maybe I was mourning the loss of all the yummy foods that I ate so much of before. I thought I was mentally ready but boy, I had no idea. But now, I'm 3 days in to my preop diet and besides being hungry all the time...my Protein Shakes taste pretty good! I started on Tuesday and this morning I was down 6 pounds already...if that tells you anything...lol

   My husband just asked me if I was blogging about my meltdown on Tuesday! Why yes, I am! Yes, ladies and gents, it was pretty bad! We had just watched the movie Julie and Julia...and if you have ever seen it, there's a scene where she lays down on the kitchen floor, flat on her back ...balling her eyes out! Okay, so I wasn't on the kitchen floor but it was bad enough that my hubby keeps comparing me to her.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
