Anyone else at 8 months (or so) out?

Recommended Posts

I really need to get an idea of what others are eating at this stage of the game. I have completely stopped losing and basically have been playing with the same 5-6 pounds for months now. Would love to see someone else's daily diet. . .

Just trying to see what everyone else is doing with regards to food intake once you've gone beyond the 6 month mark. My nutritionist told me to eat 1200-1300 calories and 120 grams of carbs and 80 grams of Protein. Seems like the carbs are so much higher than what everyone is doing. I had a problem doing low carbs in the beginning so they told me that I needed to do 120-130 of carbs per day - just seems like alot.

I'm 9 months out and also stoped to lose. I can't help with diet since I eat all I like.

I am almost 8 months out and not losing right now. But, I know I am eating way too much. What kinds of foods do you eat? I posted about this before, but I do not do well on low carb. When I eat organic I tend to lose faster. And when I eat around 1200-1400 calories I lose the best.

I would just try some foods totally different than what you are doing now. I really think that works. Also, up your Fluid intake. Do you exercise?

I am drinking probably about 100 oz of Water a day and doing about 1200-1400 calories. I'm sure it's the exercise that I am missing and I need to quite coming up with so many excuses that I don't have time :-(

Here's what my day today will look like:

6 bottles of Water - 4 with Kellogg's K20 to add 20 grams of Protein

2 Kelloggs Protein Bars to add 20 grams of Protein

Breakfast:

1 egg

salsa

small amount of cheese (1/3 cup)

2 small slices avocado

lunch

Greek yogurt

1/2 cup blueberries

1/2 cup strawberries

1/3 cup granola

dinner

3 oz salmon (baked)

2 Tbs tarter sauce

grilled veggies (zuchinni & onions today)

If I need something in the evening I will grab a small handful of reduced fat wheat thins.

I am at 7 months and I now fight for every ounce gone! I have been so restrictive that I think it hurt me as I found that when I splurged I lost???? Now by splurging I warn you that is NOT anywhere close to a pre op splurge.

My spurge last week was a taco bell chicken fresco taco, WAIT ARE YOU READY FOR THIS??? WITH the soft shell! Yes I ate carbs! Then I followed that 2 hours later with some tuna fish, no bread!

I have been adding a 4th meal to my day that consists of lean Protein and veggie as I have upped my exercise routine exponentially as of late, not out of calorie burning,, but out of a strong desire to tone and it just plain feels good and my day is off with out it! Who would have thought such craziness in my head a few years ago!!!! :)

Now for me a typical day goes like this:

Protein shake

Greek yogurt (snack)

4 oz of chicken ( I order out with the girls or bring some from the night before. Things like chicken fajita meat and veggies, boaster chicken, chicken salad, bbq chicken, ect........... all meat no carbs)

I will also eat 3 turkey meat balls (trader Joes frozen) with some spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese, it soothes my desire for a plate of spaghetti. Also from the dollar store I get tuna and chicken salad snack packs and eat them as lunch, some days I will splurge and order some Soup to go with the snack pack. Some days I have a a bit of the salad my co workers order ( they are huge!) they have either chicken or turkey and cheese with hard boiled egg on it.

afternoon snack is usually a string cheese stick or hand full of cashews.

I have noticed I suddenly can fit a LOT more in my sleeve this last month than before, and it scared me~ I just make sure everything is protien based and I exercise more!

dinner is usually out with the hubby and I will have some veggie or onion Soup and a tad bit of what meat he orders and maybe a veggie or salad.

Myrori - you have done amazingly well! WOW! I know in the past (and I mean since I was 16 and I'm now 58) I have really struggled on other diets that normal people lose on. I remember one time being on that one where you get the daily injections of HCG and Vitamin B12 and they had me on 500 calories a day and I still only lost about 30 lbs. it got to the point where they were saying things like "ok, instead of that 1/2 of red apple, try a 1/2 of a green apple because there is less sugar in it". They couldn't figure out why I couldn't lose anymore. And I totally wasn't cheating at all - I was so obsessed with losing.

I am probably eating a bit more than I should but I am going by what the nutritionist said. I think I just need more exercise.

Hi Pamela,

I am not as far out as you or the others posted here, but I did want to comment on the excercise... I dreaded it.. totally, absolutely. I mean come on, I was over 300 pounds, I did not exercise at all. I have a treadmill and weight bench with nice weights, I have the DVD's for all kinds of cool cardio - but did not use any of them until just 2 weeks ago... I talked with a fellow sleever that had her surgery about 4 months prior to me, she joined a gym and told me how she started slow (of course) but she was determined to try it for 30 days. It really kicked in the weight loss for her and she went on and on about how much better she feels. So, I pondered on it for several weeks, excuse's..etc... I finally made up my mind to dedicate myself to 1 month of walking on the treadmill. Last week I started at 1/2 each day, 6 times a week. I weighed myself this week and lost 5 pounds!!! I cannot believe I lost that much just adding walking to my routine. This week I kicked it up to 45 minues each day and I knocked the speed up some.. I actually have sore leg muscles so I know its doing some good! I weigh myself tomorrow and am curious to see how I did. I have not changed my eating one bit, the only change is walking on treadmill at night. It is hard, I have had to say no to going out with friends last week because I knew I wouldnt walk if I went out.. last night my daugher wanted me to babysit my little granddaughter after work and it was very, very hard to say,, but I did tell her that I could only after I get my 45 minute walk in first...so she had to wait to bring baby over! For me it has only been 2 weeks of treadmill so that is hardly an excericise routine to brag about, but I do feel better about it rather than coming home from work and watching tv or being on the computer... I feel like I am doing something more to help my body... I never thougth I would say it, but I do like the treadmill time..gives me alone time and I think and walk. Good luck in finding what works for you, pick something - aerobics, walking, swimming, etc.. pick something and then dedicate yourself to 2 weeks of it and see your results... I am sure you wont be sorry!!! Good luck friend..

For me, I have been stuck at 150 for at least 3 months. I have about 15 to go to get to my goal! I know I have been adding in carbs a lot more than i should be, having a sandwich here an there, but by that I mean a tuna on one of those thin things that they call bread these days?!? Then, I have been adding at least 4 servings of fruit to my day, I don't know been craving all sorts of fruit, could that be BAD?, better than candy, those are GOOD carbs right?

I pretty much eat Yogurt with fresh blueberries for BFast everyday or a Protein Shake if I have time to make it. For lunch it is what ever left over meat or deli meat roll ups or chili. for dinner, what ever meat my mom cooks and a tablespoon of each of the sides that i never finish. I always measure out the meat to be between 2.5 and 3 ounces. I usually snack on fruit or nuts or beef Jerky, except when it is TOM then i have pretzel crisps with cheese or apples or PB on them! and I drink hot tea all day and LOADS of Crystal Light. I even pretty much gave up on my nightly cocktails since being sleeved!

BUT I'M WEARING A SIZE 6!!!!!

I know you are following your doctors orders but with what they order your weight loss will definately drag on slowly. My doctor keeps us on the same diet until we have lost all of our weight. We are allowed 3 meals consisting of 3 to 5 oz Protein and 2 oz fruit or veggie, 1 8oz cup skim or 1% milk, 6 oz yogurt as snack, That's it...no additional carbs other than what comes from the fruits, milk and yogurt. If I did not start losing with what your doctor prescribed then I would cut those carbs back considerably and keep the Protein up. Good luck and hang in there...just remember this is a life long process so you have time to correct it. Great job so far on the rest of your loss.

Hey Pamela -- I'm eating what I ate from the beginning -- between 800 - 1000 calories, under 40 carbs a day, 60 - 80 grams of Protein, at least 96 oz. of Water. I've been losing fairly well lately, some days I definitely struggle to see any movement, but then once in a while I'll lose big.

I plan on doing this until I get to goal weight and then slowly increase the carbs and calories until I stop. :) Hope that helps!

Pamela, the 1200-1400 range is what most people consider maintenance! If you are sedentary and not very muscular or very overweight, you don't need more than 1600 calories a day to maintain your weight... maybe less, even.

If I were you, I'd look closely at the carbs in the Protein Bars and wheat thins. If it's not less than 30-40g/day, I'd cut something out. Have you tried rebooting to 20g/day for a couple weeks -- for low carb Atkins-style induction?

Then, if that doesn't get things moving, cut down your calories a little. Say back to 1100 then 1000 then 950 to see how it goes.

You also might try Wii Fit for home exercise. I get bored of exercise really easily and don't like exercise equipment (you can do only one thing with it? boring!), but the Wii Fit is fun and it helps you track how much exercise you do every day, makes it into a game. It's got yoga, aerobics, balance games, and muscle-building exercises as well -- worth the investment. I told myself I was allowed to start with just 5 minutes a day, then 10, then 15, then 20... worked my way up, so there was never that whole "I'M GONNA GET FIT YEAH, STARTING NOW I WILL EXERCISE AN HOUR A DAY, I WILL BE PERFECT!" delusion. Cuz it never, ever works ;)

FYI: I'm a newbie to the sleeve, but not to stalls in general. :)

Hey guys! Thank you SO much for all of your comments and tips - it all makes sense! Going to start a new regimen and see if I can't get rid of these last 40 lbs once and for all! I think sometimes we all just need some encouragement or maybe a swift kick in the butt from each other :-)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
