I was sleeved a week ago today. Have had really no bad side effects other than gas, an extra period and now some diahrreha.................Except, I don't know why, but it's like my internal thermostat is broken....BIG TIME!!!

One minute I am perfectly fine, then FREEZING, then sweat is running down my back. My temp has not been above 100 since surgery, so it's not a fever! I went to bed last night so cold. I had on flannel jammies and a sweatshirt. Woke up 2 hours later, seriously sopping wet like I had just got out of the pool. It was NASTY! Again, I didn't have a fever, so not like a fever broke!

I am 36, so really don't think it is change of life, I mean it could be I suppose, but i don't know if because I was forced to have another period so soon after having one if that is making me feel this way? But, it is like every couple of hours I go from one extreme to the next.

Any suggestions? Anyone else do this?? Am I just a weirdo? Is is just the anastesia? Help!!

Thanks!

Kelly :)

I am having the same problem - I am either just right, too hot, freezing, I was so cold today that I went outside to try and warm up in the sun, and was still freezing out there too. I am NEVER cold, so I am thinking that it has be something to do with the major changes our bodies are going through.... hmmm interesting stuff huh?

Me too fellow May 9ther RVers!

I think the cold is the main symptom because then we bundle- and if you sleep bundled you will wake up sweating for sure as your body generates heat while you sleep. I have had two of those sopping wet awakenings- ewwww!

BTW sorry about not starting the RV thread early enough today- I will start it late at night so we can all chime in- I often am up late with insomnia since surgery and then sleep until noon and I want you to know where to post so we can all keep track of each other.

There is some studies that imply that ghrelin has something to do with the bodies thermostat...many posts on here about feeling cold. I still once in a while get cold feet... they are not always cold to the touch, just feel cold to me. Also, I was all through with hot flashes before the surgery, and bam! Hot flashes all over again now... the body releases hormones stored in the fat as we burn it off.. .perhaps this has something to do with it....

I have a friend who had the lap band 3 years ago (no longer has it due to severe erosion and had to have it removed). Right after he went through that surgery he was always cold too. It must have something to do with the surgery and our bodies trying to adjust to it.

Also it can be the body getting rid of anesthesia. Sounds weird but it takes while. The other thing is that fat tissue stores estrogen!! So it is kind of like a hormone machine!! As you lose fat...the hormones are released. This is why menstrual period changes as well. :) I had all this happen when I lost 90 lbs in 6 months on Optifast. This is how it was explained to me.

I was sleeved on April 4th and I had them to. The doctor told me that when you take calcium citrate it can cause hot and cold flashes and also mild skin rashes. I am lactose intolerant so I have to take them. I'm constantly turning the fan on and off and recently invested in the remote control fan so I wouldn't have to keep getting out of bed to turn it on and off. Bottom line the body is changing and adjusting, the Water is moving around in our bodies and weight is shifting. It's prob a side effect of the trauma on the body or either the Calcium citrate. I'd talk to your surgeon about your concerns with it.

I'm 38 and my body freaked out for like 3 months after surgery. I'd eat something and it would make me really hot and then put me to sleep. I'd need to take like a 30 minute cat nap after eating certain foods. I figured my body just couldn't process things the same way. I'd get weird diarhhea with it sometimes too.

At night I tend to get extremely cold. I'd sleep with a beanie cap on, slippers, the heater on, blankets and I'd be shaking in bed.

But it has all (mostly) settled down now at 7 months out.

Good luck!

wow...good to hear other people had problems like this too....mainly I get HOT....feels like I think hot flashes would and maybe that is it but I didn't have them before surgery and this started right after. I sleep with a fan on and the blanket goes on and off all night as I vascillate. I don't have fever so I know that's not it. I'm about 2 weeks post op and starting to feel like I am over the hump with regard to surgery recovery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
