Hi there, my name is Trish. I'm having my surgery August 28th in Melbourne, FL by Dr. Mark Fusco. I too am a bit nervous and excited, not too worried about the procedure . My neice had it done 1 yr. ago and has lost 70 lbs. and says she feels totally awesome. She is my main support system.

There has been so much drama going on in my life in the last week that I haven't had the chance to say CONGRATS to all of you who have finished your banding, and WHOO HOO! to those of us who haven't. We are close! I can't believe my partner and I have our new life starting in less than a week.

We have been on a South Beach/liquid pre-diet, and I am ready for that to be OVER! I have lost 16 lbs, so that is good.

Congratulations to both of you!!!!!

Drifter you have me worried though-I thought I read everything but I don't recall having read about getting pain about 5 seconds after you drink when you are first banded. Have you heard of this before? Have you called your doc about it?

Diva: The pain has pretty much gone away. Even at its worse, wasn't that bad, about a 5-6 on a scale of 10. Also, went away when I started using some minor pain meds. I can still feel the liquids passing the band site, but it no longer hurts.

My doctor and I discussed the sizes of band before, and I agreed that I wanted the Medium size if he felt, once he was inside me, that it would work. Kind of a caculated agressive approach.

Doing great with swallowing now. Just some port incision pain, easily controlled with pain meds. If fact, I will be trying to just use over-the-counter stuff today.

Dont worry, it gets better soon. Best to you. Drifter.

I'm feeling great today - just sore in the stomach area. I had 5 incisions! I thought it might be only 3 but I have 5 bandages.

Drinks- cream Soups, bouillion or broth, liquid nutritional supplement, diet Carnation Instant Breakfast, applesauce, skim or 2% cottage cheese, Jello, flavored and unflavored waters (non-carbonated), juice - apple, white grape, low sodium V-8 juice. Lots of Water

Also I add a product call Unjury (find it on the internet under UNJURY) which is an unflavored powder that adds 20 grams of Protein to any liquid. Use one scoop to the liquid (but not steaming hot because it will be lumpy) that I mentioned above at least 3 times a day and you will get the 60 grams of protien required per day. They also have flavored formulas.

So far I have had jello, a nutritional supplement (Walgreen's brand) water and broth with UNJURY added. I am not hungry at all but I read you really won't be hungry for 4-5 days.

Good luck,

Yes, I too am an anxious bundle-o-nerves! Luckily I'm going on vacation and that should distract me for the next five days. My inlaws are visiting upon my return and this time next week I'll be on pre-op. I've never been this nervous and excited at the same time! I'm so happy to read that so many have made it through the surgery with flying colors. I'll be sure to post when my time comes up.

Cheers!

Lynn

I really thought I was taking this well but I have noticed that my stomach is starting to hurt which for me is a sign of stress (since my staple line disruption). I must be more nervous that I think I am. I have ordered some Protein Water and some ujury protein to get me through the first few weeks. I know from my past surgery that I will probably not be too hungry for the first few days... just head hunger. I guess I am just afraid that since I had problems last time that I am just destined to have problems. I go in on Monday for an EGD to see if my ulcers (from the sld) are healed, if so I will feel more assured that everything will be OK.

Sorry to dump but I feel like if I express too many concerns with my family they will get nervous about the procedure and they have had to go through enough with my previous surgery.

Good luck to all the August Bandsters!!!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
