dragon 1 Posted May 13, 2011 I just had my surgery at NYP on May 9th; I'm in Yonkers - hi! I am having my surgery at NY Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Anyone else out there whose had theirs there or nearby?
janinemaire 7 Posted May 13, 2011 Sorry, I haven't been on. Did you have your surgery? I know I was so nervous we all are but it will be great. I'm glad you feel you will go back to therapy for food issues. Many need that support and most likely I may find myself doing the same. Honestly, as the months go on I miss food less and less. If I really want something I will have it. I think what is hard is getting used to the portions because there is no way we can eat the way we used to. For the last week I have been craving a real bagel, so I finally got one. I slices it in half and toasted it. I ate half of the half, whats funny is I really thought I was going to eat the whole thing. We learn as we go along. Good luck and let me know me how you're doing: ) Great to hear at 6 months out you are LOVING YOUR SLEEVE AND HAVE NO REGRETS!!! I am getting a little nervous -- that I'm not prepared emotionally to live a life without overeating. I intend to go back into therapy to find a new non-food coping behavior...but I'm still nervous. Starting the pre op liver reducing diet next Wednesday I have bought some sample Protein Shakes and still haven't done my "taste test" yet. I'm worried I will find all of them awful tasting and really start to freak out! Not missing food could be very liberating! I keep reminding myself that with the sleeve I can eat the foods I enjoy (I don't eat candy, ice cream, cake, Cookies -- I like good food -- like cheese, antipasti, savory foods -- more of a "fat tooth" than a "sweet tooth") just in much smaller quantities. I also remind myself I won't be drinking "whey isolate" forever! Being satisfied with a quarter of a "real" bagel isn't so bad!

ChubbyCat888 0 Posted May 14, 2011 I went to a meeting in Middletown, NY and it makes me so nervous that I won't get insurance to pay. Is there anyone on Blue Cross?
Ready2BHealthier 0 Posted May 15, 2011 I have Blue Cross and they covered it. Your surgeon's office should know what you have to do. Each insurance company has their own requirements. I had to write an essay on my weight loss attempts, had to get cleared by a psychologist, attend two nutrition classes, there were some other things too. I went to a meeting in Middletown, NY and it makes me so nervous that I won't get insurance to pay. Is there anyone on Blue Cross?

MSanti 52 Posted May 16, 2011 Hi guys! Sorry I have been away for a while. I have been doing really well. The first couple of days after surgery weren't as bad as I thought they would be. I have had very little pain. The first week was just soreness, the second week almost nothing at all. Today I am back at work and moving around just fine without any pain. I wish all of you that are still waiting for your surgery a lot of luck and that your recovery is as speedy as mine was. My surgeon was great!!! Dr. Marc Bessler must have had some real steady hands because I am doing so well.
msdw59 11 Posted May 17, 2011 on June 13th, I will be on the NY Loser's Bench! Hot damn I'm so flipping excited!

I also remind myself I won't be drinking "whey isolate" forever! Being satisfied with a quarter of a "real" bagel isn't so bad! My flipping surgeon requires a 30 day pre-op diet. 2 Protein Shakes a day with a light dense Protein dinner. Now about the shakes: I too was in a panic. I have never in my life drank a slim fast or even a Carnation Instant Breakfast. So, off to GNC I went and I brought Isopure chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I also purchased Designer whey chocolate and vanilla and then while in the store my cousin called (she had bypass) said to get the GNC red can of vanilla. I started with the designer whey vanilla. And it looked great, but the smell was off putting. But because I spent $20 on that can, I opened the chocolate designer whey and added a scoop of chocolate. It wasn't enough "chocolate flavor" and I still couldn't get past the smell. I then went in the refrigerator and put in two bananas and a pack of diet chocolate putting. Then put the whole thing in the refrigerator. After about an hour and the drink was cold, cold, cold, the smell dissipated, the drink was YUMMO! I have my shake solution! 27 bloody days of this sh** and then it's surgery day. How will I ever survive

kwikwits 20 Posted May 17, 2011 27 bloody days of this sh** and then it's surgery day. How will I ever survive YIKES! A 30 day pre-op diet! mns2lv4ever I feel your pain -- but you will be lots of pounds less on your surgery date which may make surgery easier. My pre-op starts in less than 48 hours -- 1000 cals.; 50 grams protein; no more than 35 grams fat. Supposed to get most of the Protein from shakes & 2x daily I can have some raw, steamed, grilled or in a Soup veggies (lettuce, Tomato, onion, carrots, mushrooms, asparagus, spinach, cucumbers, cabbage, broccoli, string Beans, sprouts, cauliflower, zucchini, okra & Brussels sprouts); 2 cups of low sodium broth daily, 30 calories of low calorie ice pops, Jello, gum, no more than 2 cups of coffee daily & unlimited Water, diet beverages (including soda -- but I'm trying to quit); 2 tbsp of non-fat salad dressing; mustard, salsa & vinegar in small quantities. I am going to be very cranky -- hey, wait a minute -- I already am kind of cranky now! Right now I'm planning on using the RTD shakes Slim Fast Low Carb, Muscle Milk Light, EAS Carb Control & Atkins Nutritional. I don't think I can deal with playing chemistry set "gourmet" with whey isolate yet. I just ordered one package of many Protein drinks from www.vitalady.com - didn't want to invest $30 bucks on a 3 pound can of Protein powder without tasting it first. I am going to stock up on sugar free pudding so I can improve the taste of anything really awful! Yes, I know these things need to be COLD, COLD, COLD -- twenty years ago I did Optifast & those shakes needed to be cold and drank fast or they turned into something very scary!
