I like the Inamed band because I'm familiar with it. It's the only band I use because it's the only band available in the US and because it's a very good band. I don't think there is really going to be any difference in results between any of the other bands whenever they are released in the US. When it comes down to it, probably a band is a band. And I'm not banded personally, although I certainly have thought about it. My BMI is currently 29.9999999.

Greetings from Philadelphia! I was banded 2/28/06 (VG band). Im down 35 lbs and saw my doc this week. Hes very happy with my progress. I also have no fill as of yet, and still seem to loose. He wants me get a fill when my weight loss stops. I reall have no problems at all. I can eat all foods (even bread, basta, rice) and nothing seems to get stuck. Am I just lucky that I have no complications with food? I seem to get a bit of heart burn at times and some burning in the top of my stomach. Tums usually nips that. Do I need to have my band examined or x-rayed to make sure its ok? Do I need a upper GI to make sure all is ok? Also i did over eat a few times and was very stuffed? Would that enlarge my pouch and how would I know if it was?

Dr C-

I think one of the best gifts you could give your patients is to get a band yourself. I wish all the surgeons that place bands could feel what we feel...not that you can't use your imagination and years of education...but the first time you feel your stomach and the sensations the band creates, it's really cool.

Thank you for all you do for those of us that struggle so.

And I love that you posted your BMI!

Megan

I think you are lucky (or working very hard) that you are losing weight with no fill! The reason you have no complications with food is that you haven't been filled much. In my experience, the more fills a patient gets, the more food intolerances they have.

Congrats on the weight loss!

If you have heartburn on an empty band an upper GI might be a good idea just to be thorough.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
