We are all cheaters and taking the easy way out

Recommended Posts

I showed her today just how easy I am having it when I was with her 1/2 the day and she saw my routine of sipping every 10-15 minutes. Then I showed her exactly how much I could eat and she retracted her statement! She said she didn't know it was that time consuming to have to do all that I do and said she never meant it that way. Yeah right. But I took other's advice and just stop trying to prove my point because ultimately, I am the only one that truly knows how easy or hard it is. She is a friend but not even best friends understand everything we do. I gave her info and websites she asked for to research the surgery and left it at that. She will be the 1st and last person I do that to. From now on I will say I am losing from eating and exercising as I should and that's it.

About 4 of my close friends who were against me initially having surgery have now begun asking questions about the sleeve so they can possibly join me as a loser. The heaviest is a size 16 and now instead of just dieting, wants to go the "easy route" like me as she calls it. I spent over 2 hours on the phone explaining what info I learned in my 2 years of researching all wls procedures. But it kinda annoys me and made me wonder if anyone else had people say they were losinng the easy way or cheating? I feel like this is anything but that and really hate people thinking having major surgery, eating like a bird for months if not years, and having to constantly monitor themselves medically for defenciencies is easy! She is a best friend so I know she didn't mean to totally insult me but the next person that calls wls easy or cheating will get a real good piece of my mind

I I weighed 238 the day of surgery I am 5"3 I did wear a 16 though, however my bmi was 42. I was sleeved on 4/6/2011. I am already tired of hearing things such as; you can't just exercise?, girl I think you can walk that off, you aren't that big. I havent had someone say this is the easy way out yet, I think it will bother me. Everyone doesnt know I am diabetic, have sleep apnea, have some serious joint problems, and acid reflux. Wearing black and spandex I can look somewhat normal. Women in particular are funny. A co-worker had a gastric bypass a few years ago. She got down to a size 5, she is in her 40's. The other women who were normal like a size 10 or so are jealous its ridiculous. You made the best decision for you. I wish you well on this journey.

Ugh, I absolutely hate when people refer to WLS as the easy way out. I had quite a bit of family say to me, "Why can't you just eat well and exercise?" And they knew darn well that I had been up and down on the scales for as long as I can possibly remember! Obviously something wasn't working for me. WLS is certainly helpful in the process but it is not a 'fix all cure'. Unfortunately, people who haven't been through it won't ever understand it... and that's just something we all have to grit our teeth and accept.. Trust me, I wish I could change the way they perceive it. Rawr!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
