I had my surgery last Wednesday at 7:30 AM. Pre op was nice, and relaxing. But unfortunately I woke up sooner than they wanted me to. Normally people wake up in recovery after they had a pain shot, but I woke up as soon as they took the anesthesia off me and before they could give me a pain shot. I remember hearing "uh, she's awake" I got pain shots every 5 minutes in recovery.

I had a catheter in and oxygen on because I had really shallow breathing and fast heart rate due to the pain. I was only able to stand up for about a couple minutes that day, and I slept a lot. Pain wasn't so bad when I was sitting still.

The next day I had the barium swallow, which tastes really bad and didn't want to go through my stomach which was really swollen at the top. But everything went well from that. My doctor came and talked to me, told me I had one of the biggest stomachs he had ever taken out and that everything was going well. (Up to that point I wasn't sure if he had actually done the surgery since my stomach didn't feel any different LOL!). I had my catheter out and went for a walk, and got the oxygen off. I felt much better that day. I also got my room service tray which has Jello, broth, crystal light and a popsicle. It took me about 3 hours to finish that, and when I was done they were bringing in yet another tray. When I was at the hospital that food seemed sooooooooooo good.

Later that day I got put on pain meds by mouth and decided to stay one more night. Didn't sleep as well that night tho. Spent a lot of it drinking the liquids on the trays they kept bringing me.

On Friday I was able to take a shower and for some reason I was crying and shaking the entire time, not really sure why. Maybe because of how tired I was. Or because I got to see the actual incisions, they didn't look so fantastic. No swelling or anything, but they are closed with staples and that's pretty gross.....

I felt good washing my hair and getting into my own nightgown and going home. Now that I am home I really don't want to eat anything. I am trying my best to keep up with Water, but I don't want broth or anything else. It all seems so gross to me. My pain meds are making me really drousy, and I can't decide if I want to be in pain or if I want to be drowsy. I have been sleeping a lot.

I am getting my staples out sometime this week. Probably on Thursday. I am supposed to start full liquids then too.

On another note, they scared me in the hospital, saying that if I didn't start passing gas or having more urine I would be stuck there for much longer. Well I have much more urine at home now, and I got some definite rumbles going on down there now! Hurray for peristalsis! LOL. If you have any questions just ask. I will answer as I can see the screen, lol

Glad to hear you are okay and doing well at home. I have my date in a little over 2 weeks from now. We had a similar starting weight, although I can tell you are at a bit taller than me since my BMI is much higher. One of my worries was about my size because I haven't seen a whole lot of people on here as big as I am and as short as I am. Most people around my weight are always much taller.

Best of luck and thanks for the details of your experience hope you will post more as you progress.

Congratulations on being on the losers bench!

Yipes on waking up so soon ...ouch!

Interesting about your stomach size- I wonder if some people are almost doomed to obesity by their stomach size because it takes them more food to be full but they don't have the ability to metabolize it! It really makes you wonder...

Well, you wont have that problem now!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
