Hi~!!! Welcome!!! LOL about this board being more addictive than facebook!! I love how we can use our status updates to say things we might be able to tell those around us, and there are so many supportive and wonderful people.. this site rocks!!!

BTW: I live in Korea, and I'm surrounded by these tiny little people.... (ok I'm 5'8", not tall, but I rarely meet a woman who is even close to my height).. and some lady will come up to me, scan me from toe to head like some creep checking me out... and then will say,,, "you're fat!!" and sometimes I say, "ohh, really, i didn't know that" while acting shocked... Other times I will tell them I can go on a diet, but they need plastic surgery to look halfway pretty... it depends on the mood I'm in biggrin.gif

My flight is booked! Arriving in San Diego may 9th. Gonna enjoy the night life before heading down the next morning. Whew can't believe it's actually happening!! Oh and I had a pretty cool morning. I was a lowes picking up material for a job and the cashier (whom I think is stunning, and asked out once not knowing ahe was engaged, and is no longer) says to me hey, are u losing weight, your look great! I smile said "ah shucks ma'am" in my best southern drawl, chatted for a minute flirting mercilessly, with her grinning eat to eat. Then walked out thinking yeah, just wait till a few months from now. Mwahahaha!

I just booked my hotel, decided to roll the dice with price line. I stated 4 star hotel in downtown San Diego for 110.00 I am staying at the Sheridan hotel and marina! Their site lowest rate is just over $210 a night. :-) just keeps getting better. Woot! *extremely dorky happy dance*

I like that hotel a lot- call and ask for the newest tower. FYI if you use hot-wire you can often do even better and better bidding dot com identifies the hotels...

I'll be having my surgery while you're playing in SD!

Good morning Pasquini,

It is very early am, I'm sitting here drinking my coffee and I like yourself have been poking around here. I am much older, sailing in the same boat. I just wanted you to know that I feel out of sorts today and your letter cracked me up and gave me a whole new look at what the rest of my day may look like. I am female, 54 and have fought the same 40-50lbs for 40 years and have NEVER reached my goal. The sleeve sounds like the right tool for me since my BMI is on the lower side. I have attended the orientation and first support group meetings. Unfortunately I am in no position to pay for it myself, but if my insurance approves it, I hope to follow through. This venue sure is encouraging. I wish you the best of luck and anytime you would like to throw me a smile. I'd appreciate it.. Have a great day!! Happy.....

Hello, I have lurked around here for a while, taking sips of information like so many of you with you Protein shakes. I feel I know some of you already. So I thought to myself. "hey, introduce yourself to these lovely folks, and join in on the ride."

I am like many of you am a life long overweight fella, done the diets, listened to the little people expond the virtues of eating less, moving more, all the while thinking, "yeah, ok toothpick boy with the memory foam office chair molded to your half a cheek butt, come spend one day fabricating and installing granite countertops with me and then talk to me about moving more while I carry you back to the truck after the work day" I mean really, why is it that skinny people never know how little they are? always talking about needing to lose 5 more pounds? Don't they get how small they are? When's the last time you heard one of our metabolicly hyper-efficient-selves say something that indicates we do not know our size? heck i do every time some skinny person gives me advice or bemoans the need to lose another few lbs, I hold my gut and say, yeah, I so get that, If I could just gain 5 more lbs I'd be so happy, right where I need to be :) sheesh look in a mirror people. lol, oh sorry I digress

Anyway, so I have been researching surgery for 4 yrs, lapband was my first choice, then about a year ago I started looking at the sleeve and decided that was the way I wanted to go. I have been looking forward to the day when I could begin this journey, your stories have helped me stay focused on the goal (i'm self-pay) well i just filed my taxes and with the return will finally have enough (if i go with the dr. that advertises here for 4400.00) to have the surgery. To say I am excited is like saying the moon is kinda big.

I am both excited and nervous all at once, at 39 I thought that feeling was gone with, prom, my wedding night and size less than 50 pants.

So, im 39, 5'8" was 310 at my heavyest 18 months ago, I have lost 40lbs since my heaviest, but have been stuck here for 10 months. I am looking forward to this journey, toward, health, comfortable airplane rides, amusment parks, sitting on the floor without a wall to lean on, a sexy self, well ok really who knows, i have never been little and i could get then and then be ugly, i mean hey, there are alot of skinny people that are not so umm, well, not ugly. ;) Anyway, Thought i'd say hi and introduce myself.

Pasquini

Bwaha. I so wore those. Lol. Man it hated those. Those and rustler. Yes it certainly seem that women are the majority around here. Whuch I'm ok with I suppose. :) I went to a mostly womens college in the south, which worked out very well ;) unless u got stuck holding the door after chapel, u were there holding the door for 10 min unless some other fella was dumb enough to try to walk through it. Lol

Whats up Bro...huskie jeans...hahahaha......rolled up of course!

@empress. Go ahead belt it out! Maybe I should get that for my iPod for the trip. It could be my theme song! Kinda like when wrestlers enter the arena and their song plays while they give high fives and air waves to the fans on their way to the ring. Hmmm I might have to talk to my coordinator. I can see it now.... *enter dream sequence, blury vision music starts, focus returns, que announcer* and in this corner, in the pale blue open backed gown, weighing in at 270lbs, from Oklahoma pas-----qui------niiiiiiii!!!!!!! *all the other patients going wild, creating a throng as I wave and sign autographs, stopping to take a picture with a baby or two (though I can't imagine why someone has brought their child to the clinic, sheesh people!) lights are flashing, camera's are snapping away, clothing is being thrown, (oops wrong dream sequence, sry about that folks)* then the announcer breaks in and in this corner refusing to weigh in, coming all the way from inside the land of gastrouka, undefeated, heavy weight champion of the buffet world, "The Stom------ach" today bout will go 1 50 minute round, loser leaves the other alone forever! Crowd goes wild!!!!!!!* (end dream sequence). Or something like that. :)

Pasquini:

Once you're sleeved you'll be "livin' the dream"!! Loved the dream sequence picture in my mind. I think theme songs are a way to keep us motivated. Mine is "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen!

So if you're from OK does BOLO'd mean anything to ya? :P (Have a friend from OK who says BOLO'd a bit....)

@hip

Rolled up! Yeah what's with these manufactures! Fat kids aren't taller just because they are wide. It not proportionate here! Lol yup rolled hm up or walked em off. :). The absolute worse was in 5th grade Jordash jeans where the bomb! Well you can guess they didn't have them in my size, of course. (So my mom, bless her heart for trying.) bought printed denim fabric, made me Jeans and (1000 points if you see where this is going) painted (yes painted) a horse on the back pocket! Haha. I still remember deciding to wear them to not hurt her feelings. Lol. Yeah there were some bloody nose at school over those. Haha.

I thought BOLO'd meant "bowled over", but he told me it was "Be on the Lookout" So, once you're sleeved I'll be BOLO'd for that sleek GTO roarin' down the road -- it's gonna be the winner in the PASQUINI 500........

OREO'd?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
