Need unflavored protein that isn't weird

Recommended Posts

Hey all-

I am 5 weeks post op, and most of the time I drink 8 oz of skim with 1 scoop of Jay Robb strawberry Protein powder. The thing is, that gets old after a while (even though it is quite good), and sometimes I don't want to use almost 200 calories for a Protein shake. I still want to get all of my Protein in (my nut says 60-70 grams) but I would like to have an option where I have unflavored protein I can add to SF pink lemonade or something along those lines. I purchased powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (which everyone says is the best, flavorless etc), and I can sometimes taste it and ALWAYS smell it. The smell is so weird/bad that I can't bring myself to drink it really. Sometimes in desperation I just pinch my nose and chug it, but gross. Can anyone suggest an unflavored whey protein isolate (it has to be whey protein isolate, nut says) that isn't disgusting or smelly?!

Thanks!

Good luck, I'm interested to hear opinions on this. I've tried the Unjury unflavored and Optimum nutrition any whey unflavored Protein. They do ok if I'm cooking with it. Like if I make protein pancakes with cottage cheese in them, I throw in a scoop of Protein Powder and then I can't taste it. But every time I mix it in a drink I can taste and smell it.

I thought that the Protein powder wasn't supposed to be heated? On the Unjury it says 'Don't heat over 100 degrees' or something along those lines. You've been cooking with it and eating it and it's okay?

Hmm, I never noticed that on the Unjury container, but I believe you I never really looked. I only tried the sample. The ON seems to be fine. I've never had trouble. I know alot of people throw a scoop into their coffee too. The container for the optimum nutrition one says it's great for baking and lists beverages that it can be mixed into including coffee and hot chocolate so I would assume that is fine. I guess they all just vary.

I tried Unjury and didn't like it at all. It had a weird smell and taste to me. I love Any whey from Optimum Nutrition. I put it in my coffee every morning (after I stir in some liquid Creamer from the fridge to cool it down). You can tell there is a little something in there but it's not bad at all. I've also mixed it in Soup and other foods and can't tell it's there. I order it online. You should definitely try it.

I definitely agree ... this was the best. I added it to yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, warm cocoa, etc. I ordered it from Amazon at a good price.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
