eleven day post op with weight gain

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Well I am eleven days post op and I was down 12lbs. Today I weighed myself and I am up one pound. Ugh!!! Is this normal? Have I reached my "plateau"? I am still on liquids, I have slowly introduced Tomato Soup, and cream of asparagus Soup. Do I go back to Clear Liquids? Or stay on the full liquids and just keep trudging through this? Any advice out there for frustrated me?

Don't beat yourself up your body is still in the healing stages, ups, downs, and plateaus are common...

This is a lifelong journey and the weight will come off following the advice of your doctor and nutiritionist. If their plans says to be on full liquids then stay with it unless they are making you sick. If that's the case contact them and ask....

At 8 months out i've had some stalls and some gains but the overall trend is downward, keep at it follow the plan work the sleeve and try to stay optimistic. Give it time your body is going through a lot of changes that pound plus some will be gone soon enough.

I am 16 days post op and my dr says that I am not in the weightloss stage of this lifelong lifestyle change. At this point its all about allowing the staple line to heal. In the course of the staple line healing we will of course drop weight. But during the first 6 weeks its all about healing and re-introducing our new stomachs to food. Once we learn what foods we can tolerate and exercising, the weight will begin to fall off.

My weight loss is a little freaky! I've tried to avoid the scale for a week, but always seem to wind up getting back on, just to make sure it's still working! For me, I lose 2-3 pounds, then bounce for a couple of days before I level off at the weight lost. It's been this way for me during the entire time. I've just come to accept that this is going to happen and in a few days the pounds are gone for good.

The same thing happened to me. I think it is all the sodium in the Soups we are eating. Makes you retain Water like crazy. Also, I have read on here that not getting plenty of fluids can slow the weight loss also. What I read said to get even more than the 64 oz referenced here so much. That's just about impossible for me right now, but when I can, I plan to drink a lot more.

Have you started loosing again? I am 3 weeks out and I have stayed the same and gained 2lbs over the course of this past week and a half also! SO I guess I was about 11 days post op when I hit this crazy stall too! Mine is still not moving and I am following the rules. Just wondered if you've had any luck in the past few days?

I was only 2 weeks out and stalled for 2 weeks! I am now almost 5 weeks post-op and beginning to slowly loose some weight. What I do notice is that I am loosing inches like crazy! It's not always about the pounds. A good friend of mine said to measure yourself and use that as a guide in addition to the scale. It helps you to realize that sometimes your body isn't dropping weight because you are sculpting and changing fat into muscle.

I will loose a pound and gain it back the next day. It sits with me for another day and then drops. It seems to be the way I am loosing right now. Although, I know that when i kick in my exercise plan, I will begin dropping weight much faster, but I really hope not too fast. I want to maintain my weight loss and most people seem to be better at doing that when their weight loss is slower.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
