I am 5 weeks out and the last few days I have been throwing up after 4-5 bites of any type of chewed foods. I went back to Soups but cant really eat much. I had some crunchy Peanut Butter last week and I am wondering if I have some blockage. I can't even really drink much of my Protein shake. I have only really been able to drink Water.

I called my doctor and he is ordering an upper GI X-Ray. Has anyone experienced this? Is there any home remedies?

Thanks in Advance,

Mo

No, it's good that you're seeing your doctor. You need to find out what the cause of this is. Just sip on warm herbal tea to stay hydrated and warm things keep everything relaxed inside there.

I had the same problem when I started eating soft foods. Finally figured out that I was trying to eat too fast and too much. Old habits die hard, I guess!

@Texas Teacher - So what happened? I am going to try to have some tea now. I have lost close to 40 pounds in the last five weeks.

It seems both of you have had your sleeves done for some time. Are you both able to eat any normal food now?

I'm not quite at 3 months. Lost 45 pounds in 9 weeks and have been stalled ever since!

For the weirdo throwing up (really more like spitting up), I just learned to slow down......and to portion out really tiny amounts of food to start with. If I was still hungry, and I never was, I would have had more. For me, normal food today is pretty much a Protein bar, tuna salad with melba toast, and broiled or baked fish. Still can't eat beef and really haven't attempted salads or veggies.

wow, 5wks and you still can't eat. I am 21days post op and I can't eat anything. After a couple of small tiny itsy bitsy bites I get super full. I am worried when I return to work I won't have energy because I can't eat. I work in direct patient care and run around all day sweating.

It does get better!

You just have to try to sip on Protein shakes or bites of Greek Yogurt, or a spoonful of egg salad, etc. If all you can eat is 2 bites every 2 hours, just know that soon you'll be eating more.

it does get better. i'm close to 3 mos out and can eat almost anything -- just not much. if you're just "spitting up" your food it may be too much too fast, but if you're really vomiting then it's good that you called your doc. you might want to sip chicken broth -- not sweet and it's also warm. good luck!

Taking your time eating early out is super important. It's hard I know, I was so used to eating fast and furious. I never made myself vomit after eating but I would get uncomfortable sometimes... but since I was previously banded for years I knew when I got my STOP NOW signal.

It's still good to see your Dr., its never something to be taken lightly. I hope all goes well, and please let us know how it turns out. In the mean time, continue to take tiny sips and go slow. For me, it actually took me a full month of eating tiny portions of solids while still having liquids here and there. Nothing wrong with taking your time. :)

I had my X-ray yesterday and it was all clear. I was able to see that I do have reflux during the X-ray. After seeing that it was all clear I went back to eating again with confidence but much slower now. It sucks eating slow but the throwing up is a lot worse. I am down 41 pounds over five weeks so it's really hard to complain. I miss eating regular food but it feels good to be down!

What were you guys eating after your 5th week? I want to try some new things and look forward to hearing any and all suggestions. Can we eat Peanut Butter?

Peanut Butter is still very hard for me! I was still pretty much relying on cottage cheese & pimento cheese at 5 weeks. The mashed potatoes & rectors Beans I'd been craving were too heavy. Just go with what your body tells you...and chew slowly enough so you can hear it!

Glad the scan was clean!

HI,

I had the same exact thing. They told me it was becasue of swelling in my new stomach. They switched me from Nexium to Prilosec and it has worked. It took about 3-4 days of the new meds and it made a huge differance. I hope it is that simple for you too!

Hi!

I am "almost" at 3 month mark, I still am with Protein Shakes, Protein Bars - LOVE them for the quick easy- grab & go! I buy all (Atkins premixed shakes & bars). I also have high Protein (22 grams) beef jerkey 3-4 times a week for snack, I do turkey, chicken, fish and love cottage cheese. I cannot do beef yet, had a bad experience with it, most likely I did not chew it enough. Point is I was very worried how I would do once I returned to work, what would I eat, needed something easy... It has been fine, I grab a Atkins bar, eat a jerkey or have a yogart, etc..... has been very simple! Good Luck, you will find what works for you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
