I am 55 years old, weighed 247 at surgery, and my BMI was 43 - my surgery was my birthday present to myself. I returned to work 2 weeks after surgery. My job is sedentary and I don't do any lifting. I felt pretty good - but I purposely scheduled surgery three weeks before Christmas since it's the least busiest time of the year for me.

I started on mushies the Saturday before I returned to work so I'd be ready for it during the work week. I was so busy during work that I often forgot to eat on time.

Truly - it's all about planning. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, i really appreciate your input. Due to the nature of my work, i think i'll need a month off, so i am going to plan it around xmas time, when things are quieter, and nails dont grow so quickly (i do feet)!! And if there is snow on the ground, even better (people cant get to me). So i think i'll book it for Dec/Jan. :)))

I am 45 and weighed 250 prior to my sleeve on 3/7. I am approved through 4/7 from our disability area. There is no way I could go back to work earlier. I manage a team of 24 ee's and although not physical it's a large complex which requires a lot of walking. I think I would be ok with the walking but I am so tired daily by 1 pm and need to rest. My family doc says that it is very normal to be tired after surgery (just saw him today).

I am VERY impressed with those who went back after a week or 2. Wow!

I am married and have 3 children and I am taking this time for myself. Yes, I am being selfish biggrin.gif !!!! After taking care of everyone else it's my turn.

Good luck

I am a teacher also and will be returning in one week to teach. I took the whole four weeks off because my job is so demanding. I'm worried about going back because I am still so tired.

I was 245 5' 4" and I'm a teacher. I took off 4 weeks. There is no way I could have gone back before 3 weeks, I couldn't do the morning routine with my children who are 5 and 8. Everyone heals different, though. I give major KUDOS to people who said they took a week off!!!!!:D

I had surgery on a Tuesday and returned to work the following Monday. I'm a teacher, and I did have to sit more than I normally do, and I got VERY tired in the afternoons for the first couple of weeks. 43 years old, BMI was 35.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
