My sleeve: 3/15/11

Recommended Posts

My sleeve is 3/15/11, and I'm very nervous. How are the other pre-oppers doing on their pre-op diet? I'm finding it a little difficult. However, I have lost 3lbs since 3/4/11. Does that mean I'm following it better than I thought I was? ha. The only Protein suppliments I can stomach are the New Whey 42g shots. I've tried drinking the powders/shakes, but I get nauseated and can't finish them. (I think it's the texture.) I've been drinking alot of Soups, Water, apple juice and eating ham and cheese lean pockets. I guess I'm just nervous and questioning myself. Any tips to get me through these last couple of days?

as far as the Protein powders have you tried GNC whey bolic amplified extreme 60 in the choclate..I think with out a doubt it probably is one the best protein powders out there. It is not thick If you mix it with milk it tastes just like choclate milk. As far as getting through the last days. Find things that will take you away from food I put puzzles together. Eat a lot of sf jello..between Protein Drinks I ate a lot of jello!!! I know its crazy but it really did make me fuller.. Any way there are not a lot of ways to make yourself happy about liquids..If you are getting any solid foods than consider yourself very lucky. I had 4 Protein Shakes a day all the broth, jello, water and sugar free popsicles that I could stomach. I know you hate it right now but after your surgery you will appreciate being on the liquids. It helps reduce your caloric intake and gets your body prepared for the lower amounts of food that is required after sugery. Try to stay focused on the prize and not the food. I stayed in a different room while my family ate.. You will do fine; Just stay focused and keep you head up..Always remember you are doing this for your health and for yourself..

My surgery is wed the 16th!!!! I am soooo excited, yet terrified at the same time, thank you to everyone for all the info, I'm new here, and so very confused,

I didnt have to do a liquid diet, just an Atkins type... I"m terribly hungry, grumpy, and cant seem to quit the coffee. I'm raising daughters, and thought nothing could scare me(lol) but.... o man

I read a post that mentioned CLEAR Protein drinks, post op, I bought the ones from costco, just to get me started, are those going to be ok?

Thank you in advance for any advice, I'm over loaded at this point

Hey sleeve buddy...I share your same date. I have been following an Atkins type pre-op diet and have been pretty good with it except for a few small deviations but no major pig outs thank God! Tonight I had a little over my budget but am not going to freak out about it. I was extremely hungry and have followed the program exactly all day long. I am also going to start Clear Liquids tomorrow so that will be 3 days of broth, Jello, posicles, crystal lite. I did buy some Protein drinks at GNC and tried one which was horrible but I forced myself to drink it. They are called Isopure...I have only tried one flavor so far but I bought them all to try. Also, I ordered the Unjury chicken flavor Protein Powder and will start that this weekend with the clears. Do you have a clear liquid stage? Have you already packed your bag for the hospital/what did you pack? Where are you having your surgery? Keep me posted on your progress. Good luck with the pre-op diet

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
