When you came come from the hospital what was the most comfortable position to sleep/rest in? My father has a foam wedge pillow I can borrow and I was wondering if that would be beneficial. Normally I sleep the best on my left side and I was wondering if I will have to sleep on my back.

Sleeve is a week from tomorrow....so excited!

Not a weird question! I'm typically a 3/4 belly sprawler, but I had a drain in for a week, and lying on my side in bed, it pulled and I just couldn't get comfortable. On my side on the loveseat, however, I was perfectly comfortable, and as soon as the drain came out after a week, was totally comfortable back in my normal sleeping position.

I sleep on my left side as well and that is where they had put the JP drain, so it was a bit uncomfortable, i managed on my right side and back until i felt i could sleep on the left. . . good luck! You'll do great!:)

I sleep on my stomach but favor one side or the other and switch through the night, I didn't have much pain after the surgery and didn't have a drain... The only reason I took pain killers was to go to bed and this only lasted the first week. After that I was fine to sleep however I wanted.

I am a side sleeper, but the first week after the operation I had to sleep on my back because it hurt to lay on my sides. I also raised the head of the bed with some 2x4's because I had acid reflux. After the drain was out I returned to sleeping on my sides.

I slept in our recliner. It was so comfortable! No pulling on the drainage tubes, and it was easier to get up when I needed to.

I slept propped up in a recliner the first couple nights then propped up in bed until the drain came out.

I slept on my back propped with pillows. It stretched everything to lay flat. I did that to stretch, but couldn't stay that way to sleep. It was the middle of week two before I could be on my side with a pillow under my belly.

I slept in the recliner as well. I'm a major side sleeper, and regardless of how I propped, stretch, curled up, it never worked for me.

I had a lot of gravity pain from my abdomen being bloated, along with drains, side sleeping was not an option. Getting up and down out of the recliner made things much easier.

I used the wedge. I didn't think I would like it. But, it helped so much! At least for a few days.. It hurt to lay on my sides.

I really struggled to lay on my back for over a week after surgery. It just felt like everything was pulling, I was panicking that I couldn't breathe properly and it really hurt to go from a lying to a standing position.

I too went down the sitting up in a recliner or on the bed propped up with pillows. I'm quite a fussy sleeper and never thought I'd be able to sleep that way, but trust me, you'll be so exhausted that you'll sleep regardless! I finally got onto my side maybe two and a half weeks post surgery - ahh, it was heaven. :)

Funny how different it varies person to person, I am typically a side sleeper... But could not sleep in bed after my surgery.. I had tons of belly pain any way my weight shifted caused it to be very painful, so we moved our smaller recliner in our bedroom.. It was very comfortable and easy for me to get up and down out of it. I had my surgery month ago and Im still in the recliner lm almost ready to transition to bed.. Itried this weekend and I cant lay on either side just yet, its coming though... Im almost there...

I actually do not have a recliner. I will not have a drain so I think I am going to try the wedge and some pillows. I have a high bed so hopefully I can just roll out to the side without much pain. My biggest challenge will be kicking the cats out of my room just in case one decides to jump on my stomach.

Pre-op class and pre-op blood tests today. Surgery one week from today!

Haha, I know this feeling well. I was constantly on the defensive every time the cat came anywhere near me! I was repeating "not the stomach, not the stomach!" at my friend's little boy just the other day. :D

I am a stomach sleeper, but couldn't do that for the first week or so. But, when I first came home, I slept on my side with a small travel pillow supporting my stomach was the most comfortable. I had surgery on Monday and was off pain meds by Friday, so it wasn't a big problem.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
