Ok, I haven't gotten my surgery date yet, but it will probably be in about 2 weeks. So, I thought, why not go ahead and start my pre-op diet early!?! OMGosh. I have had a headache ALL STINKIN' DAY and I'm so tired. Please tell me it gets better!! I can already tell that I'm going to be BURNT OUT on sweet pretty quickly. I can and will do it, but no one said I had to enjoy it! LOL! I see my surgeon on Wednesday (weather permitting) and will get my surgery date. The sooner, the better I say!

LOL!! Hang in there and good on you for starting now!! Not many do that, says alot about how you'll do in the long run.

The headache might last a few days. You are going through sugar withdrawals and it can last from 3-5 days. Once you get over it you are good to go. Good luck!!

My headaches are either caused by caffeine withdrawal or aspartame. I had to go caffeine free in stages, mixing regular iced tea in various proportions with Decaf until I got decaffeinated. Iced tea has always been my go-to drink.

Yep you will get headaches for a couple of days but after that it is not really that bad..I personally didn't start to the doctor told me to start..It does suck really bad and I am on the last day of liquids before surgery but I still want something to eat but it is not so bad that I can't control it..Biggest thing I guess is the will power it takes to not eat..for me I didn't cheat one time and I feel really good about that, Hang in there it will get better I promise you..Good luck and keep us posted

Hey fellow Texan,

I'm also going to see my Doctor this Thursday and will hopefully be setting my surgery date as well (I'm self pay).

I've done medifast for about 3 mos. and did have headaches for about the first 2 days but Advil made mine go away. Are you able to take a mild pain reliever?

Good luck with the roads, hopefully by Wed. we will be in the clear. I'm also in the DFW area.

Take care...

Hey, I am with Dr. Nick as well. I start the pre-op 2/21 with my surgery date 03/07. I must say I am concerned with my ability to stick with the pre-op diet. Perhaps we will meet at one of support group meetings. Others I know that have been sleeved have very positive things to say about the group sessions. Good Luck and Keep us posted.

Hey Fellow Texan,

I am also in East Texas. I am seeing Dr. Stephen Hamn in Plano. Who are you using? I have been through the Psych eval. Dietician consult, and now doing the 6 months of supervised weight loss Dr. visits for the insurance company. No one told me about that until after I was well in the process. I am hoping to have my surgery in June. I am ready. Am exploring different kinds of Protein drinks, and trying to get all the post-op stuff in line so I will have what I need after surgery.

Try to stay in touch and keep us Texas folks in touch.

Neanie

I am gradually moving towards it. I cut out sweets this week and changed dinner to a shake. Next week Breakfast gets changed to a shake and I switch to half caf coffee......and so on from there....My information just got submitted to Aetna around 4 yesterday. Going on the pre-op diet scares the 'poop' out of me! How do they expect me to go from eating anything not nailed down to liquid? They are freakin NUTS!

Good luck I hope it gets easier!

Are you on a "full liquid" diet? I am, and the Magic Bullet purees anything, it makes even meats like creamed Soup. I puree Soup with added meat for my dinners. I would not get enough energy from shakes to have the strength to keep working.

Keep your diet varied. You can puree cottage cheese and have yogurt. In between meals I drink juice and I avoid artificial sweeteners...they give me a headache.

The surgeon's nurse told us that we are not limited to how much we eat...just what we eat. We're not suppose to starve ourselves. That made me feel alot better about the 2 week diet.

I hope it goes well for you!

I must agree the pre-op diet stinks. I'm on day 2 and it is rough. Hopefully it gets better by the end of the week. I keep focusing on February 14th, the big day!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
