anyone know who is considered to be among "the best" VSG surgeons in the U.S. -- in terms of number of sleeves performed, success with patients, low complications? it's pretty clear from researching who is among the best in Mexico, but was just wondering about anyone who stands out in the U.S. thanks.

I'm getting ready to get sleeved on Feb 8th. My surgeon is Dr. Cirangle in San Francisco. According to his website lapsf.com he pioneered the sleeve in the us. I'm flying from Hilo, Hawaii to have him as my surgeon.

Congratulations on your upcoming VSG surgery.

How are you measuring experience? Number of gastric surgeries?...that would be older barriatric surgeon, think that guy is in FL who performed a lot of old technique surgeries before RNY/ Gastric bypass, lapband or sleeve/spider sleeve. Or measuring best reputation along with thousands of surgeries? Highly suggest you verify all the surgeons say, which is easy to do with internet.

Adore my surgeon & I did a lot of research before choosing him as a self payer. Worth ever penny and it was a lot of pennies, ouch.

My surgeon performed first lapriscopic gastric bypass in US. He also was a trial surgeon for LapBand when new. Even better he performed first several spider VSG surgeries in early 2010. He can be seen on The Dr's TV show, talking about spider VSG. He has been on several other national TV shows talking about WLS and how it is a viable option for overwieght people like me, where dieting has failed numerous time. He is passionate about WLS, his patients success rate and post surgery support groups free for LIFE. May I add, he is non condeming, never once looked at me like I was disgustingly fat or as if I was just another way to make money. Quebbemann loves his career and excels at WLS surgery. Only cons - hard to get in for initial appt. and he is a little arrogant but rightly so with his sterling reputation. Trusted him with my life and I was not disappointed.

Many really good surgeons here in US. Great post.

I see by your profile that you are in GA.. In Birmingham AL, I used Dr Scmitt at Alabama Weight Loss.....website is www.alabamawls. He has never had a leak and any complications was due to non-compliance with the program. We have a monthly support group and the coordinator is an actual weight loss patient-gastric.. Check him out. The office staff is very good and responds to phone and email request promptly.

I drove to Dr. Mark Pleatman in Michigan. He has a great cash-pay price and I felt comfortable after I spoke with him and after watching this video of his on youtube. Apparently my surgery went exactly like the one in the video, so that's nice to hear.

I'm not sure about "most experienced" but I felt good about my choice. It was SO NICE to drive there and back without worrying about flights and passports. My husband was unsure about the whole thing so I know that would have freaked him out.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
