When Can I have COFFEE!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm 19 days post op and feeling great. No pain, no reflux, no gas problems.

I am not a big coffee drinker, but especially on the weekends, I like to sip coffee and read the newspaper. When did you start to drink coffee??? I do have Decaf in the house but I'm afraid of drinking it.

Thanks,

Nina

You should never go back to having caffeinated coffee. My Dr. said I could drink De-Caf right away. I am 10 days post op and I sip on coffee (decaf) every morning. I use Truvia as my sweetener and use milk or soy to lighten it up.

I look at it this way ..... the pain i went through to get off the caffeine reminds me just to stay away from it all together.

good luck

My husband had surgery in November, and probably within a week went back to coffee; I had surgery in December, and when I went back to work I went back to one cup or two per day. Coffee is one of the few things you are allowed while on liquids. It was actually on our list of things we can have. Surprised to see others saying we cannot have it. I personally have to have something to dirnk besides Water and Protein drinks. I have no problem giving up the regualr or diet pop; and juice can be so high in calories. I plan ot keep drinking coffee in moderation.

I think I had coffee when I went on full liquids. I was sooooo very excited. I went to our local coffe shop and ordered the biggest Decaf soy latte they had, only to discover that my post-surgery soy latte size should have been a small.

I went back to caffine about a week later. I made my coffee about half coffee and half Atkins vanilla shake for the first few month. Now I just do a little skim milk and all is fine. Best to ask your doc though.... everybodys different.

good luck

I like the idea of mixing the shake with coffee. Atkins has a shake that is called cafe latte (I think) and it is so yummy. I drink it now and I haven't even started my pre op diet.

Good idea :thumbs up:

Was told that coffee is fine since post-op day 1 here. I think I had my first cup around day 4 and didn't have any problems. I drink it black and obviously had to take it slowly at first.

People get told different things and the truth of the matter is that a sip isn't going to hurt/kill you. If you want to try it that badly, I'd say go for it (slowly) and see how your body reacts.

My doc. said no caffeine for 6 months, but honestly, I've been making iced coffees, with slighly more than 1/2 milk (for the protein), & a less than 1/2 coffee, about 2 or 3 times a week. I thought he said the concern is that coffee can cause ulcers, so I don't want to risk that by having it every day!!! Love Truvia to sweeten it up!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
