Hey there

I am hoping ya'll can help me , I am 2 months post-op( down 34 pounds, YA MEEEEE) and doing GREAT. I have been very fortunate to not have any problems with eating or nausea or acid refux. My husband is coming home this weekend from Afghanistan and we are planning a "honeymoon weekend" downtown and I am wondering what alcohol drinks I will be able to drink. In the past I have always been a Miller Lite girl , but everything I have read said beer does not usually do well with the sleeve. So what about Captain and diet coke( again what about the soda issue) . I know we will be having a few drinks and I would much rather not have the "bad stomach" issues , so I would appreciate some ideas of what would be ok to drink. Another silly question, have you found that you get "drunk"faster after the sleeve,? I also dont want to get sloppy drunk early in the night. I obviously have not had a drink since I was sleeved. Thanks for your input.

Take a tiny sip and wait to see what happens. My research says don't drink. I'll have my procedure in April and am trying to stop the wine now!

Congrats! Without knowing, I don't know that I would chance it. I wouldn't want to ruin an important night by getting sick or having long lasting tummy issues....are you totally against drinking a non-alcoholic drink you are used to?

Have fun whatever you decide!

White wine is my safest bet. The first time I drank, I got drunk fast, sobered up faster. With time tolerance has built up, and now I have zero issues catching and maintaining a good buzz.

Vodka and cranberry juice

I would recommend you trying a few sips of wine or a mixed drink with juice before you go out just to make sure you don't get sloppy on your weekend out. Congrats on your husband's return ! ! !

My surgeon said no alcohol for at least six months preferably a year. Carbonation I still can not do at almost 5 months out it hurts.

I don't find that I get drunk faster post-sleeve; that said, I get drunk from 1/4 of a 1-oz cocktail, so that's not saying much. I find that I have even less tolerance for acidic drinks (wine included). I used to be ambivalent towards wine, now I can barely stomach it - not only because of the taste alone, but it also seems to make me nauseous after 2-3 sips. Regarding carbonated drinks - I don't like beer, but I've had carbonated cider on occasion and didn't have any problem with it. I just take small sips and pause for a few minutes to let out any burps that may have formed so I don't feel uncomfortable.

Not sleeved yet and a big wine drinker now, so I guess I can't help at all.

I do have a question and hope it isn't too out of topic: how do you manage food, sleeve and worries when your hubby is in Afghanistan? Mine is leaving in Summer and I'll be sleeved at the time and I am worried about my feelings and not compensating them with the usual tactics: food. He won't stay long (Italian army doctors do not stay there for more than 3 max 4 months because they're needed here as well) but still...

Congrats on hubby's return! <3 Enjoy your time.

As for the alcohol, I was told NO until I reached goal. So just be careful!

I am only 2 months out and my favorite drink is vodka and cranberry juice. Wine is ok too just depends on the acid reflux. I get drunk just by looking at a drink now after surgery. It also only takes about a half hour to hour and I am sober again. I can't do beer or soda. I have tried and it is still way to much carbonation for me. I would try a drink at home first. Good luck and congratulations on the Hubby coming home. Have fun.

Just stay away from carbonation and you will be fine with anything else. 2 months is plenty - it's not like alcohol is magically bad for your staples or something, it's just the empty calories they want you to steer clear of.

I'm also two months out and had a half a glass of wine and felt it real fast. Take it real slow and I agree try it home.

Have a great weekend with your husband, you both deserve it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
