So frustrated! Please help!

Recommended Posts

Okay, I was sleeved on December 23rd and have lost about 22 lbs since surgery! I'm so excited about this, but I haven't lost anything in the past week! I'm getting extremely frustrated. I know one of the reasons I may not be losing like I want is because I have absolutely NO appetite and can hardly eat anything. I'm currently in the "puree/soft foods" stage but the suggestions that the doctor gave me just sound horrible and make me gag just thinking about putting them in my mouth! I have tried to puree different types of canned Soups but looking at it dusgusts me. I'm also struggling getting my Protein in! My doctor said I should be getting about 60 grams of protein daily, but I'm not coming near that. Does anybody have any suggestions on foods I can have at this stage? I would eat if something sounded the least bit tasty! Thank you all!

Hi Megan -- our bodies do not lose weight at a steady decline -- they lose weight, then try to "adjust" and then lose weight again -- kind of like a stair step. It's pretty normal about 2 - 3 weeks out to have a small stall, meaning you won't lose, you might gain a little, or maybe lose a teeny amount. That's ok. You really cannot help but lose it eventually. Look at the long term picture -- you're in it for the long term, so what you weigh today or even next week will not matter next year!

There is a great thread that talks about weight loss and how our bodies actually lose -- I'll post it if I can find it.

In any case, cheer up -- you will lose it -- I stalled around my 3 week and felt like crying every day (I think I did actually) -- but then after 2 weeks I started losing again. If you do what you're supposed to do (Protein first, drink Water, get some exercise), you will lose -- guarantee! ;)

I was sleeved on Dec. 21st and was cleared for chopped meats at my 2 weeks mark "all doctors are different mine allows solids at 2 weeks" I started with some leftover turkey that we had frozen and was amazed at how good it tasted. I blended it at first because I was afraid of hurting myself.. 1 thing I have found that settle my stomach are the lays baked chips "big no no I know" I eat 1 chip and my stomach settles.. You are going on 3 weeks have you thought to try any egg drop Soup from a chinese place, or possibly cream Soups? You may not be able to get very much in at this point "I was only able to get in 3 spoons and I was finished" As for the Protein I have finally found 1 at the Viatimin Shop its called Pure Protein "35g a can" It taste like chocolate milk and is really low in carbs/sugar. If you could drink a can through out the day you would be getting in atleast 35g. Which is sounding better then what you are getting in now. Are you dealing with stomach acid/heart burn? That could be a cause of you not wanting to eat/drink anything. I know I suffered with it horribly, and was prescribed nexium a week later I feel 100% better and I am able to eat a little bit more "still never more then 4-5 bites lol" Best of Luck to You.. Find what works for you, but still follows doctors guide lines..

Hi Meagan,

I was sleeved on Dec 14 and last week I wrote a similar request. I had lost 34 pounds and was stuck there for 12 days.... I was going crazy, and I got a lot of positive reply's. Made me feel a lot better. I weighed Monday morning and had lost 3 pounds FINALLY.....The first thing you have to do is put the scale away. What they say about the body adjusting is true. You have lost a lot of weight and your body needs to catch up. As for the food, i'm not having any major problems with the food. I have things I like. Do you like Refried Beans? I doctor them up with onions sauteed soft and salsa. I can only eat a little bit. Avacado's mashed up with some garlic salt and lime is also good. Mashed potatoes with gravy. I love cottage cheese and Yogurt so I have that when I am hungry, and believe me I get hungry. I wish I could come up with something great for you to eat. I put the unflavored protied powder in just about everything that I eat to boost the protien.

My doctor said if you don't get your protien in it will slow down the weight loss, so do whatever you can to get it in. The unflavored protien powder and the dried milk helps. I also found some crystal light that has 3 grams of protien. It's called Hunger Satisfaction. I like the Strawberry/Bannana. I'm not sure if it comes in other flavors. Hope this helps.

Lisa

scared.gifHey you just so you know you are not alone!!! I was sleeved on Dec.15th and have stalled week 3-4 we'll see if the scale will budge this week. I am eating the same, drinking the same, taking my vitamins....I do exercise and do some pilates at night which if I am correct are probably helping me to build muscle...if that's true then it weighing more than fat "could" be a theory. By no means are you any different or is anything wrong. I have lost 33lbs since surgery though so I try not to complain-LOL

I was sleeved on November 301, 2010. I think we must remember that this is not a race, but a journey. Trust me, I know it is frustrating when the scale does not move, but in time, WE will lose the weight. Keep in mind that even when you don't lose weight, you may be losing inches. The positive side is that, you are not GAINING weight!

Be encouraged! You are getting some great advice. Let's keep supporting one another on this journey!

Smoochies,

NewNatalie

I am like you! I hate these puree food suggestions... I've made up a couple though on my own that are tasty to me...

1 or 2 laughing cow cheese triangles (very soft and melt in your mouth- 2 of them don't even equal a 1/4 cup. I kinda dip my little bites in salsa juice and it's yummy.

Refried Beans.. I put them in the blender with a little taco seasoning and salsa to make it more liquidy and not as sticky. YUM... although it made me wish for tortilla chips! LOL

fresh made pinto Beans (made in the crock pot over 2 days very soft..made with ham in there so they had that flavor)

other than that, I have added the powedered milk to my Carnation and my other Protein drinks. I added a tbsp of Peanut Butter and blended well to a choc prot shake, made it more flavorful and more prot.

I just ordered "Pure" Protein Powder brand off of bariatriceating.com because everyone on there raves about it, it is supposedly flavorless and you can add it to ANY food or drink and get in your Protein.< /p>

Hope these suggestions help! I'm still on Puree too. :-)

Can someone write a "Stall in week 3" thread and make it sticky? :P

Seems like everyone (and that includes me) has this question and one collective thread may be a good idea

My doctor suggested to add dry, powdered milk to things to get extra Protein. Tomato Soup or sugar free carnation instant Breakfast. I am still on pre-op, but I think the instant Breakfast with the extra powdered mil tastes much better than some of the other options.

I agree...I am enjoying Carnation Breakfast. This morning I added dry milk and then heated it up. Made yummy hot cocoa!

I have not tried it hot. I will do that. Sounds yummy. Mom, your surgery is tomorrow? Mine is not until Monday. I will be thinking and sending warm thoughts and prayers your way.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
