NSV- crying at GoodWill in the dressing room

Recommended Posts

So I really did not look in the mirror for the first 5 weeks, I honestly had no idea how much my body had changed. I went back to work and by day two my uniform pants were so large I asked to wear regular clothes the next day as my uniform should be arriving. The boss said it was ok, but it had to be business casual. So I had to head over to Good Will and get something. I grabbed a bunch of size 18 pants and one x shirts (formally I wore 22 tops and 24 pants), some jeans that looked new in different sizes and headed to the dressing room. When I tried on the sweater top and slacks I stood there and cried. i could not believe that was me looking back at me.

I continued to try on the clothes and for the fist time in many many years I like what I seen below the neck line. For at least 10 years, when I looked in the mirror I only focused from the neck up.

Funny thing was a few hours later in my head I was back to the old self image. I guess it will take a while to get to know the new body I have now and what is to come.

Myrori, congratulations!! I think the biggest hurdle we have to face is the new us. :) You will get there in time... as will I. It's not easy!! Be kind to yourself - and VERY proud of how far you have come!!

That is really awesome. Good to hear that you are shopping Goodwill. Don't get too attached to those new clothes - my bet is that they will be hanging on you in another 5 weeks.

That is so great that you like what you see. It's amazing how much better we feel about ourselves when we feel good about our own image! Definitely a NSV!!!

I completely understand. I went to Salvation Army today as I am down to one pair of jeans and they are starting to get loose. The last pair of pants I bought was a size 20. I found a pair of 16 and yes a pair of 14. Not to snug and I still have a muffin top ( I don't think I will ever lose that body feature) and a XL turtleneck. I have not been in these sizes since before my daughter was born and she will be 22 on Monday. I am loving my sleeve.

how great is that! I remember trying on a pair of jeans that didn't fit me at all so i kept saying they should fit soon, they should fit soon. . . then when i finally did try them on, i had missed the size! they dropped right off. . . i felt both silly and good at the same time. . .sorta upset too cause they were beautiful jeans that i had never worn, they still had the tag on them and now i couldn't wear them . . . i offered them to my daughter, who has a weight problem as well, but she said they reminded her of "Dorothy" from the golden girls. . . old lady jeans. . . ugh. . . so i just bundled them up and put them up. . . then i tried other things and was amazed at how i had missed sizes. . . it's a neat feeling. . . good for you! keep up the good work. . .

Well done to you... I am going through a similar thing at the moment... I 'feel' smaller but when I look in the mirror I don't see much of a difference! I am trying to be kinder to myself... but I fully appreciate how emotional this whole process is...

Keep up the good work! =]

Congratulations!!! What a great feeling that must be. I'm having surgery on Jan 11th not much longer. Getting nervous praying that I have no complications and no regrets.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
