I have a question about birth control! My DH and I haven't used it since February 2006. I have PCOS and I don't have a period unless it's induced or if I'm on fertility meds. I was discussing birth control options with DH for after surgery, but he said he doesn't care what we use or if we use anything. I think after 5 years of seriously TTC baby#3, he feels like we just aren't ever going to get pg and I can't say I blame him, I feel the same way. BUT, I know that with all the estrogen that will dump out of all the fat I'll be losing, we could end up pg....a long shot, but still a possibility. So, what would you do? Not worry about it? Worry about it?? BCP are not an option, I get strep throat every time I use them. Condoms? Any advice would be great!! Thanks so much!

My hubby and I were in the same boat. I have pcos and very rarely have a period. For the last 17 months we used condoms but we weren't interested in doing that long term so I spoke to my doctor and she suggested an IUD-mirena. I did all kinds of research on it an chickened out because of all the bad reviews on line. I went back to my doctor and she said what about paragaurd...here is why I picked it. 1. NO hormones. 2. it is copper and not plastic so some of the symptoms that come with mirena were not there. 2. it lasts up to ten years but can be removed at any time and you can get pregnant right away. 3. Don't have to think about it like nuvaring. 4. I read a lot of reviews about it a lot of people complained about the pain of having it inserted but then that was it no headaches or mood swings 5. We have three beautiful children but always wanted 4 but now thinking we MAY be done, so the fact that we could change our minds was great. So I had it done 4 weeks before my surgery, And right away had a period. I have had another since surgery (which is like unheard of two months in a row) but I think that the weight loss is kicking my pcos in to shape already. The ONLY issue I have had with the paragaurd is that the first period was VERY heavy. the second a little better. Hoping that continues. Anyway the insertion was a piece of cake, I did take a little Tylenol once I got home and had light cramping for the day but that was it. Glad we chose this. You should talk to your doctor. I would suggest you have some kind in mind at least for a year after surgery because your body needs to heal and learn to operate with your new sleeve before taking any chances getting pregnant. And you just never know what might happen.

That is just my two cents worth. Hope it helps.

You're meant to be careful 12-18 months after WLS not to get pg. A lot of people who had difficulty having kids before WLS find they're able to conceive, so just cos you couldn't before don't assume that's the case now. Have you thought about the contraceptive injection? You have to get it done every 10 weeks.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
