SO FRUSTERATED Im guna be stuck like this forever

Recommended Posts

Im so frusterated im on my 3rd week out from surgery, The first week I got on the scale and was exstatic to see that i lost 9.6 lbs. the second week I got on the scale and was a little disapointed to see a 2.6 lb loss im in the middle of my third week now and weighed myself tonight (my official weigh ins are every friday but i just was curious) and i actually gained 2 lbs. I feel so frusterated, i knew that i would stall like almost everyone else does but i wasnt expecting it so soon, nor was i expecting to gain weight. I feel so embarassed my mom who paid for my surgery is coming to visit me tomorrow and she hasnt seen my since before the surgery she hasnt said anytthing but i know that shes expecting to see me noticably skinner, i feel like im failing myself and my family. Im just sitting here telling myself that this whole thing was too good to be true and im just going to stay this way forever. I cant stop crying im so mad at myself. I know everyone says oh dont worry it will come off but i just feel convinced that its just not guna work for me. I am getting in all my Protein Im drinking all my Water im going to the gym Today for example I had 2 oz of yogurt for Breakfast a couple bites of chicken for lunch and a few more bites of chicken for dinner. and then a protien drink. I dont feel like im eating too much I just dont know what im doing wrong or if im just supposed to be in this body forever. I feel like im letting everyone down and im so depressed any advice?

Your body is still healing and going through the major shock of surgery. It takes time for your body to even out. Eating as little as we do the first few weeks, I think (my opinion only) that our bodies go into starvation mode and hang on to every calorie of food that passes our lips. Some people have said that even when they aren't losing weight, they are still losing inches off their body. Perhaps you can try doing your measurements and see if that gives you an encouragement boost. Also, we don't gain weight overnight so we sure aren't going to lose it overnight. You have lost about 13 pounds post op. That is over 4 pounds a week. You are still doing good. Would you be losing 4 pounds a week without the sleeve? If your mom is expecting a miracle weight loss in 3 weeks then I think she is being unrealistic. I am sure that your mom will be proud of what you have accomplished in so little amount of time. I am only a week out from being sleeved but I know that when I get to my first stall I will feel disapointment in myself. We just have to remember to try and stay positive.

Stop being so hard on yourself! You are eating right and you will lose weight! You just barely had surgery.

I am sure your gain is only temporary. Our bodies have to get used to their new weight and it fluctuates. I can remember a lot of people who are now at goal thinking this surgery was not going to work for them.

My only advice is don't weigh yourself so often, our weight fluctuates from day to day for various reasons, You're doing the right thing and you're great! Getting stressed will only slow down your weightloss. Somebody posted a thread on that somewhere, stress releases the hormone cortisol that will slow your weight loss.

BE ENCOURAGED!

I agree, your stress does not help your weight-loss. You are losing weight!!! This is not the biggest loser...we are not always gonna pull double digit losses every week. If you do great and if you don't don't let that determine the success for this journey. You have made a decision to take back your life! That is great! My dad who always had a snide remark about my weight told me after returning home from surgery that he was proud of me. I could not believe it. I believe your mom will be too. Don't stress yourself unnecessarily. Just because mom paid does not mean it is her journey. It is yours. You did it for you and no one else. Remember that this is a tool to weight-loss. It is not the magic pill. While the surgery deals with the amount of food that affects our weight we must begin to deal with the emotional and other causes that effect our weight gain.

In the meanwhile BE ENCOURAGED by the new choices, achievements and all the possibilities! Remember how you felt while preparing for the surgery? Remember that excitement??! Go back to those moments and enjoy the possibilities! Dream of them! Get rid of the scale!!!!!! Get rid of the scale!!!!

You are doing a great job!!!

You're only 3 weeks out, and doing fabulous. Your body is still recovering from a major surgery, and stall at 3 weeks happens to about 90-95% of WLS patients. It's even normal to see a bit of a gain because the body is holding on to everything you put in it.

This is a lifelong change, and remember we didn't get fat overnight, we can't expect to get skinny overnight. Setting outrageous expectations, and trying to gauge your success on the first 3 weeks is going to do nothing positive for you. Continue to focus on Protein, and fluids. Make sure you are getting enough calories to compensate for working out.

I'm in my second week and stalled. I understand what you're saying about 'looking noticeably slimmer' for your mom, as i'm off from school for 3 weeks and feel when i return, those who know i've had the surgery are expecting me to look slimmer...and i don't.

I weigh myself everyday, and my weight in the evening is always a couple of pounds heavier than i was in the morning. The day-day weighing is not accurate...there are patterns and fluctuations. Likewise, you could 'miraculously' lose 5 lbs overnight by 'not doing anything.' It's how our body responds...and we all have a different response system.

We need to be realistic. This was never intended to be a quick fix. This is a lifestyle change, and this is a TOOL, not the answer.

The sleeve works. You need to trust the process and let it help you. I am holding tight that it will work for me.

Hang in there. I feel what you're going thru. You need to stand up for your sleeve rather than feel it's let you down. You need to rid those unrealistic demons in your head!! Good Luck!!

Thanks guys, i really needed that boost of encouragement. This whole journey is turning out to be more of a mental thing than a physical one. Im just wondering if maybe I went on solids too quickly, most people on here seem to have a much stricter diet at my stage. I went in for my post op check up 10 days after surgery and thats when my doctor said I can start eating regular foods again is that normal? It seems like thats when my weight loss halted (middle of week 2) should I put myself back on the liquid stage? Or just continue to trust in everything and continue the way I have? Thanks again for all the encouragment, I had a breakdown yesterday and felt so lost, im feeling much better today.

I stalled for almost 4 WEEKS! . . . so don't be discouraged. I felt like this wouldn't work for me. I was doing everything right and not losing an ounce! So I stopped going to the gym because I felt like it was pointless. Week 5 I upped my calories, increased Water, and like a miracle the weight started coming off.

Don't be discouraged. Your stall will end. :)

I went on normal mushy ffods after a bit more than a week, each doctor nutritionist have their own different way to do things, I would advise to stick w what your surgeon says, I did and even though I was a "lightweight" not so much to lose as some people, I lost steadily and continue losing. I did have stalls, and some I prob didin't even realise cause I only weigh myself about once a month. And you're right when you say it turned out to be more a mental journey than a physical one, i had an idea it would be like this for me anyway, cause I had a very unhealthy relationship with food and this is the best thing I've done!

Glad you are feeling a little better Lolli, this is definately a 'journey'! You have been given some great advise here... I know it is difficult, frustrating and a down right pain in the backside... but the sleeve is a great tool and it will work. I have never been successful on a 'diet' and yet with the sleeve I have lost 46lb to date!

The weight you have lost so far, will NEVER come back... the two pound gain is normal so please don't beat yourself up about it... !

I weight pretty much daily, but I only record my weight weekly... I am trying to ween myself off the scales, but it is hard.

Keep up your good work...and let your body recover! You have had a great start! =]

I have found that weighing at night is always a couple pounds higher on the scale as all the Fluid we take in during the day has not left the body. There is something about sleeping that resets the body. I can go to bed weighing 2.5 pounds higher and then in the morning it is gone! Just remember, this is a tool, not an overnight make over.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
