Your favorite banded breakfast.....

Recommended Posts

I haven't been able to eat anything til at least 11 am or so, and don't usually try to drink anything til at least 9 or 10......I haven't had a fill since 1/25/06. I've never been a Breakfast eater, but sometimes I would kill for a bowl of grits! (and I have tried to eat them, but no can do)

I can't eat most solids in the morning. I used to eat thinned-out oatmeal, but I had a tendency of adding too much sugar and it wasn't keeping me full for very long.

I now have my chocolate Protein shake, blended with ice which makes like a malt shake. YUM!! And it goes down beautifully and keeps me full for a long time AND is packed full of protein... But I usually have coffee first thing, then my shake about 2 hours later.

I'm never actually hungry in the mornign but I still eat. However I like my carbs and I havent found it necessary to give them up. I used to be really bad at just banging two bits of white bread in the toaster and lathering them up with some butter and jam, but toast does give me a lump in the pit of my stomach now, so I dont eat it often unless we've got really good bread.

I'm conscious of not eating low GI carbs so I tend to do muesli in the morning, it sticks to your ribs. I just whizz it in the microwave once I've put the milk on so its nice and warm.

I can't eat in the morning either. Just can't do it. I am trying to have a Protein Shake when I wake up, but I'm usually late to work and don't get around to it. A couple hours after I wake up I have a light Yoplait yogurt, and then lunch a couple hours after that.

I can't eat until 10am. Usually I have a Med Decaf ice coffee lite with equal. Then at 10am I have a one egg omelet made with about 1/4 cup shredded cheese. That's during the work week cause DH makes me the omelet to take with me. On weekends I have one egg sunny side up with turkey sausage. Sometimes my band will let me get a small amount of wheat toast in.

I almost always have a Protein Shake. Every now and then I will eat oatmeal or Cream of Wheat. I'm usually pretty tight when I wake up regardless of how late I eat the night before. I guess that just proves that every band reacts differently.

I try to have a Protein Shake, because I usually am not hungry in the morning but I go the gym at 9, so I need "something". I do not have great restriction right now, and today I had a piece of WW whole grain toast with Peanut Butter with no problem. I can still eat Cereal, or I might have yogurt. I don't like to cook in the morning, so I rarely have eggs or anything, but I have had a few bites of chicken salad, just so its something with protein!

Though the nutritionist at my doc's office doesn't believe that you should force yourself to eat breakfast if you don't want it, I do eat it even though I'm not hungry per se in the morning. I eat it because if I don't, I always come in under 1000 cals for the day, and I need to stay above that because I have so much weight to lose. Also, i'm vegetarian and if I don't have 3 meals, I can't get in the 50+ g Protein my doc recommends for my height.

So, I usually eat either (1) 80 cals of FF Total Yogurt with 1 c Kashi (total of 220 cals and 26 grams of Protein, which always sets me up to meet my caloric/protein goals), (2) 1 morningstar veggie sausage patty (80 cals) or (3) 2 wedges of laughing cow cheese sandwiched between 2 pieces of Kavali crackers (140 cals).

lunch is usually my biggest meal.

I like to eat a high-fiber cereal for breakfast (one-half cup of All-Bran provides 15 g fiber) with a half-cup each of milk (Simply Smart 1%) and plain yogurt (Fage 0%). Plus a piece of fruit sliced in. That way I get one serving each of milk, fruit and high-quality carbs.

I am like most as to my stomach can't tolerate breakfast in the morning so I force down a mini carb control yogurt or a handful of already peeled sunflower seeds. My coffee is all that I really want until about noon or 1:00 pm but realizing breakfast is the most important meal and jumpstarts the metabolism.;)

Saul,

I understand what you mean about the no breakfast thing in the morning. I FORCE myself to a low-sugar pack of oatmeal when I wake up because I know it is good to jump start my metabolism but I am always so darn tight in the morning and am NEVER hungry. I would probably prefer to wait until noon to eat but I know it isn't good for me. I have found on days that I skipped breakfast I either stall or gain weight. On days that I sleep in and have a late breakfast I will have high fiber/protein cereal or egg beaters with reduced fat cheese and veggies. The Protein fills me up for a long time...

My tummy growls in the morning like a vicious lion. My favorite breakfast is a bagel w/onion cream cheese and a big fat slice of Tomato on top. Yep !!

If I can't have that (which I rarely do anymore) I love eggs, omlets ooozing with veggies, turkey bacon, sausage and cheeeeeesse.

Gosh I'm hungry LOL

Breakfast is usually one of the following choices:

grits with low-fat cheese

McDonald's sausage, egg and cheese McMuffin without the cheese and muffin....and no hashbrown!!

Oatmeal

Special K bar

banana or some type of fruit.< /span>

eggs over easy (2)

Bowl of cereal

coffee - always!

Just depends on what I am in the mood for! I am a breakfast person so I never go without breakfast even if it takes me half an hour to eat one egg! It's the only way I can function the rest of the day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
